That works for me Ron.....you could ride down with me.

For the guys north of me it would save 460 miles of freight charge.

Right now the count is two going north and two going west and one going south.
Maybe take the one south, then load the WEST ones, then take the two north to WMs

Coordination

i think having Wreckerman head over and work with trucking loading is a fantastic idea... perhaps as an onsite supervisor directing load out etc.

I know it ALWAYS helps having someone familiar with MVs be there to start drive, and oversee loading / tiedown. You can't always trust your avg. driver to know the particulars of a military system... I should know, but then again we've asked them to jump in Russian tanks before! LOL

If I can get everyone's destination address (PM?) I can see on Monday early if my shipping broker would coordinate this and have trucks there at the same time. It would definitely require coordination from GL (forgot who offered, but GREAT idea)...

I am hoping with booking 4 to 5 loadouts, we can get a discount, and ensure everyone's stuff is delivered safe, sound, and with no scratches!

I know I personally will need a RO/RO trailer... last time we unloaded artillery pieces we had quite an adventure.

(2) MK48's for me

I ended up with 2 trucks - If there was a way to get them off base I was thinking of driving them home - Tamps Bay area. Anyone have experience with highway driving the Mk48? Also looking for the operators manual. The option of having them trucked is not out of the question either.

If these trucks are coming out of the Blount Island base, GL had a contract with Raytheon to provide on-base service. GL had no presence on base.

You might wish to call GL to find out if the same arraignments still exist since this will complicate the multiple vehicle removal.

Recovry 4x4 (Kenny), been to Blount Island lately?

Hey Guys,
Remember these weigh over 45,000 lbs..For the combo..I can haul up to 46,000 lbs without permits. Let me know if you need one hauled..I bought one. Goin to play with it and haul my Hmmwv around...WISH they held more people./...I will let you know if they weigh 48,000lbs like they say...I dont beleive it. I can save you alot of $$ by not needing permits in each state. I have a alumium spread axel step deck with ramps and a winch..

So we have 3 going to FL, one to MO, one to OK, one to IN, one to MN and possibly one to WI.

I have the phone number for a trucker in Orlando that would prob make a deal on delivering all three of the FL trucks.

Guys,

I've sent a preliminary email to my shipping broker, however these guys are THOROUGH and they need final address locations.

I have alerted them that there will be one to Indiana, one to St. Louis, two to Safety Harbor FL, one to St. Paul MN, one to Wisconsin.

However I must have actual addresses. My contact will get the preliminary info I sent today, and begin to look at the unit dimensions, weight etc. and prepare. So get me your final addresses asap via PM or email.

If there is anyone else that wants into this group bid on shipping please let me know asap.

Guys,

According to the TM the curb weight of the Mk48/14 is 41,300... so we should be fine on weight... width is good too... however length is interesting... almost 40 feet! Thats a squeaker on a trailer!

Yeah,

I had noticed the curb weight as well - I think the 47,000-48,000 "confusion" is coming from the fact that FPU/trailer combined weight can be quite a bit different, depending on which trailer the FPU is matched up with.

According to the dash 10:

Mk48/14: 41,300 lbs
Mk48/15: 53,500 lbs
Mk48/16: 41,500 lbs
Mk48/17: 47,660 lbs

And for those who purchased the stand-alone FPUs: 25,300 lbs

OK guys I just got off the phone with Louis the J'vill GL guy.

I have his email so I can keep him updated on our little project.

He said he would be willing to work with us to do a mass recovery. This will actually help them in that this is not a GL site but a Marine Detachment located on the opposite side of J'ville from GL.

It will save them a lot of commuting back and forth to the site.

The site is restricted access but ID card holders (I am retired Army) can get a temporary pass and get on unescorted.

Trucks can be towed off post by a commercial wrecker but the gate guards have to be informed as to which company will be used and when they are expected. If I am on the ground there and a wrecker is necessary I can work that issue.

I will also be carrying my slave cables and other items needed to make quick repairs if needed.

One of the vehicles sold had a flat tire on one of the front left axles......if this is one of the winners trucks I need to know about it.

Problems I forsee and can plan for:

Truckers not showing up when booked. If you are arranging transportation make sure your guy understands that they are dealing with a military installation and access is restricted. We also are working around GL's schedule.

Mechanical issues: Detriots that have been run out of fuel can be a pain to restart....it is usually necessary to pressurize the system to get them to start. They do not like ether. Hopefully all of these trucks have enough fuel to load or get to a fuel stop.

Lack of air due to no start. I have air lines that can be used to pressurize the system and the truck can be pulled/pushed up onto a trailer by another HEMMT. In extreme cases the air brakes can be caged to move the vehicle but that leaves it with NO BRAKES at all.

Funding. I can float small expenses on my credit card and get reimbursed later. If your vehicle needs a wrecker, tire service or anything else that cost real money you will have to take care of it with the vendor. I'll make sure your interest is protected and call you immediatly if there is an issue. We can discuss my compensation on a one on one basis as things come together.

If I missed anything let me know.

I think you covered the info really well Wreckerman... one thing that may be important is if the unit is currently attached to the trailer. For shipping, they will need to be attached. The trailer is unmovable so I've been told, without the FPU. That may add some complication and time...

I'm hoping to have all the shipping info by end of day or early tomorrow.

Someone talked about coordinating the EUCs... it would be important that these all get approved in enmasse... can GL work on that?

My unit was lot # 6521 / Event 11046... no flat tires, MK48/14 Connected...

Guys if you bought one it may be a good idea to post the same... I believe all the ones I'm working on shipping for are Mk48/14s, and all connected?

I called the Jacksonville DRMO guys to ask about the units that were disconnected before bidding on mine - the gentleman that I spoke to (I think the same guy you talked to WM) said that they were going to work with "the Marine unit" to get them all hooked up before customers took delivery.

All of the units in this auction were Mk48/14 combinations (or solo FPU's).

My unit was lot 6520 / Event 11046 - no flat tires, Mk48 disconnected in pics, but connected in the video.

Augdog, congrats on 6521, that was one of the nicer ones! :-D

I'm not sure GL has too much pull once the paperwork hits DLA......I think it's the luck of the draw as to who's desk it lands on and how swift they are at doing the required background checks.

Unless you are a first time buyer the process has been taking a week or two (the one on my M927 took less).

As long as we keep Louis in the loop we should be able to make this work. I figure the first or second week of August unless somebody is in a big hurry.

The vehicles are secured on an active duty installation so I don't see a lot of danger in things getting damaged or going missing.

I'm going to email Louis and see if I can get a point of contact at the unit and see how much professionally courtesy they will extend to an old retired Master Sgt.
