Nope they are the same basic design just bigger in every respect and with a different gear ratio 6.44 to 1 instead of 6.72 to 1 like the M35's. You could put any gear set you want each of them. Aslo you pressurize the hub if you wanted to. It's not impossible, just not easily done. That would make running in the water easier for either the 5ton or 2.5ton axles. How much water do you plan on running in?

Well all the local trails I run on currently have multiple water holes and creek crossings. I really want to own a piece of property with a creek/river running through it and I'd like to be able to ford it. What kind of protection does the Marine's fording kit provide (or is that only on 5 tons)?

The manual says 1400-1600rpm for the LDT and LDS is 1600-1800rpm so since you drive a LDS-465-1 engine in your Truck you shouldn't down shift below 1600rpm. Where as I drive a LDT then 1400rpm -1600rpm is the proper range for down shifting in my truck.

yeah my buddy has a deuce and it will only run 54 or so. And if i aint mistaken all the axles are sealed. My front axle actually has a thick rubber boot that seals the axle joints

I'm pretty sure those boots only seal the gear oil in the axle housing. They don't keep water from getting into the wheel bearings, which are outside the axle housing.

FWIW, readyman did work on "Lil Rosie" to pressurize the axle housings... I think he said it was around $50 in various air line fittings to "re-create" a fording kit for the axles. Might be worth looking into if you plan on fording some river crossings.

Definitely worth looking into, but it won't help the wheel bearings.

just want to tell a little about why I bought mine, you will see in the pic below what I originally had (78 gmc 4x4 w/ built 383 stroker, built drivetrain, and 37" toyo m/t's), and the 65 deuce w/ winch, sot top, hercules multi.

the deuce got better mileage
the deuce runs on more than just premium
the deuce hauls more
the deuce can crush things easier
it is cheaper to replace all the deuces tires than the chevy's
I have a lead foot, now with a top speed of 55, no more speeding tickets
its bigger
its louder
its just awesome
it has a winch
air shift front axle, no getting out for manual hubs
less rust
it can pretty much go anywhere the chevy can

I dont know about the deuces, but I have driven couple of a 931 and 923. Some are several mph slower then other. I remeber one time having to stand on the gas to try and keep up with the convey. All 5tons arent created equal.

OK RIZZO, you have got to tell me what size those tires are on your truck and is it a 2 1/2 or a 5 ton? I've been trying to figure out what the biggest tire is i can put on my 2 1/2 ton!! Your truck looks so BAD ASS!!
