Windshield Washer Pump

Ok I have a question. My windshield washer has never worked since I got the truck from GL. The windshield wipers work fine on all speeds however and when I hit the washer tab the wipers cycle and there is a click from the wiper motor but no fluid comes out.

I was looking on parts train and it lists two different pumps. One looks small and fairly simple the other a little more complicated. The one that looks "right" is part number 11-510.

Any ideas?

I don't know, but maybe we can trade. Mine spray water every time I turn them on.

What is the number for replacing the pump??? I have been looking for a month now and nothing but the rebuild kits.

Before you replace anything, clean the pickup inside the wiper fluid tank. When the pump encounters too much restriction, itll make a clicking noise when the pumps gears skip teeth.

Absolutely do the easy stuff first. As Kassim said, clean pick up. And also check hoses and gaskets on the pumps for leaks. Had to do that with mine... If its clicking, it's probably "trying" to pump...

It looks like the part number you need is 36-4054-Z This is from LMC truck. You might be able to go to autobarn and see if they have one in stock or can order one for a cheaper price than lmc. Check out lmctruck.com and search for wiper motor. The part number is for a new motor & pump.

Had the same issue a while back. Something broke inside the wiper motor/pump assembly. I picked up the $18 NAPA universal kit, installed it in about ten minutes and can once again wash my windshield.

Yeah. Napa has a reasonably priced replacement for the Wiper motor/ washer assembly. It is a rebuild, but these pumps were cam driven off the wiper motor and not known to be very reliable. For a 1/6 of the price you can get a universal electric pump and a couple "T" fittings and retrofit that to the system. It is usually more reliable and much easier/cheaper to change.

I second the "get the univeral" idea. With ours, the washer pump went south just after we bought it. We bought new pump off from e-bay and 4 months later, that pump stopped working. We gave up and stopped over at Adavanced Auto and picked up the universal kit for less than $20 and in 5 minutes we had it in and working.

Had the clicking here as well. Cleaned the pickup, and blew out the tubing with compressed air. Then it worked.

I can't figure out where to connect them even though I have looked at the wiring diagrams in the -20. Pretty sure switch is good. Call me stupid, but only if you can answer my question...I have wired them between the pink and white ones on the washer sol (term 6 & 7), but no joy. Thinking of running a mom toggle switch to a ground in the cab.

Im not sure if this will help but these are pics of our wiper motor wiring setup. This is how we have it, and it has been working since we cleaned everything up and whacked the motor with a wrench hahaha (really out of frustration we hit the motor and suddenly it started working)

Looking at the schematic, it looks like the white wire is the Positive and the pink wire is the negative, for the pump solenoid. The white wire is hot all the time, and the pink gets grounded when you operate the wiper washer lever. If you connect a universal pump motor to those wires it should run only while you hold the lever rotated forward.


Did you test for power on the white wire? Or, did you test for continuity to ground on the pink wire, while operating the washer lever?

White wire is def. hot. Haven't checked cont on pink wire. In Japan right now, will check for ground when I get home. Thanks for re-enforcing that I was correct.

i have the same prob with the washer.I just bought a universel pump but want to use the stock switch.On the wiper motor terminal 4 +5 one black and one white wire that is always hot.Connecting it to terminal 6 + 7(pink+white) wires....nothing.Anyone got any more ideas???

Ok, I have same issue. I went to NAPA, bought the universal, hooked it up, I have power (the new pump is making noise, but doesn't have enough suction to drawl the fluid from the resivoir. Am I doing something wrong? I was thinking (never a good thing) getting a cici fluid tank with a bottom feed and mounting the new pump slightly lower in order for the pump to thow fluid on the windshield, am I on the right track?

I did read Doghead's previous post regarding the re-build kit and since I still have the old complete pump/motor combo I might try it.........Talk to me!
