windshield wipers- how are they supposed to work?

I can't figure these things out, I turn the screw on the dash and it sends air to them. But, I press the red buttons and they just stay depressed, and the wipers don't move. If I manually push the wipers over to the left side, air will push them back to the right side but they stay there. Is that the way they are designed? I'd be more inclined to hand operate them if so......

With mine I just have to crank the knob open and they take off. Try opening up the air valve further and moving them by hand a couple of times. That usually gets mine going if they stick.

I'll have to take a look at them in that case. Both of them operate exactly the same
There is a little air nozzle coming off the top of each in a 90 degree curve. Should there be a hose attached to those?

The same problem afflicts the passenger side wiper on our deuce, the driver's side one works fine, but the other one makes a single trip, and then gets stuck....... so now you have two guys begging you for answers

Guys;
Try some rubbing alcohol in the lines and crank the air to full. After that put some air tool lube in the line and again crank it up to full blast. You may need to manually return the pump to the other side at first. There is a little butterfly type of lever on the inside that can stick the pump to one side and not allow the return. The alcohol will help dry up any sticky goop and blow it out the check valve and the air tool lube will help properly lube the sticky valves and hopefully get them to work properly. If that fails then it's time to buy a new wiper pump. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

This is quite common. What DesertRat said to do is exaclty what I do on trucks. 90% of the time this cures the problem.

It will need to be reapplied every so often, but it is worth the trouble!

After a fresh Rain-X treatment you don't even need wipers, the rain just scoots off the windshield. I'm not saying you don't need wipers though.he,he<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_approve.gif" alt="Approve">

I did try it once on the inside glass of my m-715 and I had a big problem with fog/haze but the I didn't have a heater/defroster either. They (RAIN-X) also make a product for Anti- fogging but I haven't used this. Best of Luck - Pappa-G

well, rain-x it is, the wiper pumps are shot. Did the alcohol and lube bit and neither of them will return, they just shoot to one side but stick <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_angry.gif" alt="Angry">

oh well, looks like I get to pop them open and take a look inside, maybe they can be saved
