WIX oil filter troubles

Alright I need to some help before I lose my mind.

The WIX 51374 oil filter, I pulled the old one off and the new one won't go on. It feels like it's a different thread pattern.

I've checked, both oil filters have the same number and both are the same size. The only difference I can find between the two is next to the threads stamped in the metal is a marking. The new one says 3/4 and the old says G4. Otherwise they are exactly the same.

Anyone have any ideas? At this point I'm just gonna go grab another one... This has to be some giant mix up.

I've been using that link to reference the correct part number. Look at the number, it the same one that's posted in that link.

WIX is part of MANN + HUMMEL, a German company. I'm wondering if one is inch-threads and one metric threads, or some other thread pattern such as BSPP. Go to: https://www.ring-plug-thread-gages.com/PDChart/G-series-Fine-thread-data.html for a table of G-designated thread patterns. I think this will help explain your problem. I would make a telephone call to WIX Technical Service. The telephone number is: (704) 869-3421 .

Im at a loss here. It definitely feels like cross threading / Wong pitch of threads. Same numbers, same size, same damn label but it won't go on.

The threads are cut clean and everything looks good it just won't go on.

I'm on my way to the store to grab another one. Let's see what happens.

So I picked up another wix and it didn't fit. The guy cross referenced a mobile 1 (m1-102a) and it spun right on.

Sounds like a defective filter / manufacturing defect to me, or possible mis-labeled during manufacturing.
Buying another Wix ( especially from the same store ) will probably just get you another defective one, assuming that Wix probably screwed up more than 1 and most likely that entire case was wrong, so same store probably has more bad ones.
I had one once ( not Wix ) that also seemed messed up, but it went on, just felt pretty tight compared to the one that came off.
Had to use a good amount of force, but was still able to put it on with 1 hand.

I agree, if they are spot quality controlling filters which I assume they are there is no telling how many went out the door.

When I went back for another one I ended going to a different store about 30 miles from the first store and still wound up with a bad one.

It wasn't until I switched to a different brand that it spun on with no issues. For reference the wix would go on but stop hard about a third to a half inch short of the gasket touching the block.

Howdy,
In today's world.... I wonder if it's a real WIX filter, or a grey market import.
NAPA is down the road from me. So I only have true experience with the NAPA 1374 and 1348.

Both wix filters came from orileys. Without getting into a debate about what filters are the best because I know I have my brands that I tend to trust more than others I recently found a Napa near me but now that I know I can use a mobile one I'm good!

Napa brand is Wix, if you look at the part numbers the crossover for a Napa filter is a Wix part # without the first digit. (usually 5)

In your original post you said you were using Wix 51374, in post #12 jcollings has a pic of his NAPA filter showing 1374 as the number.

Great observation! Honestly I don't know what the deal was with the two filters I got. I'm sure at some point I'll give them another try but they would just not thread on for me.

I'll probably do the mobile one's for awhile just because that what I run on my car and truck but orileys is the only retailer that actually stocks air, oil and fuel sep / filters all at once. So it makes a one stop shop for doing maintenance for me rather than having to order parts.

Weird times....

Yeah I pretty much exclusively use Wix on the sets I go through, bulk buy either through Rock Auto or Fleet Filter. Come to think of it I should do an inventory soon on my filters.
