WMO and filtering

Robertb,

Very cool to find someone that drives their Deuce everyday. Did you put a different seat in yours? I don't think I could handle it otherwise. Very nice set-up, wish you were close so I could buy WMO and WATF off you, because I can't justify spending the cash and storage to have a system like that. Oh by the way I noticed some errors in your post, so I fixed them below. : )

Thanks gimpyrobb, and you're right. I've been using this set up so long that I can tell by watching the flow when they start clogging. Generally speaking, the two Wix oil filters will last right at 150 gallons, and the fuel filter about 100 gallons. They're easy to change, and at about $16 for all three, 250 gallons for $16, is better than almost $1000 at the pump. I eat sleep and drink M35A2. I drive to and from the airport where my plane is everyday, and that's 30 miles round trip if I go the shortest way, and I never go the shortest way. There are hookers I need to drive home, places I need to run in and pick up a few necessary items almost everyday that are not on the shortest route. Like the local Army surplus store, tittie bar, Liquor store, Bass Pro, Academy Sports, the Tactical Store, etc. You know what i mean. Thanks again for the info.

UPDATE:

received my pump from hf... went out and bought 3" hose and pvc pipe and made a nice setup for retrieving the wmo... gassed up the pump, filled it with oil, primed it and went to start it up to move wmo from my tote to a barrel.. pulled the pull start and it came off the pump... screws everywhere... called hf and am awaiting the return tag... fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu....

Portable Clear Water Pump with 6.5 HP Gas Engine and 3" Inlet/Outlet
You know Harbor Freight sells some pretty good stuff, and they sell some not so good stuff. The good news is they'll exchange anything, usually no questions asked. I think you just got a bad apple. If I put mine on full choke, and set the gas a little above idle, it has never failed to start on the second or third pull of the rope. (Be sure the ON/OFF SWITCH is in the ON position) It's easy to forget and they put it on the backside. Go figure. You won't need to run it past about half speed, and just be patient, and it will prime itself.

Same seat. Took the bench seat out of my Am-General Deuce, and pulled another shock/spring seat from one of my Kaiser Deuces Which had two spring/shock seats in it. One on the drivers side and one on the passenger side. I stuck the bench seat from the Am-Gen in it. I'm working on a console to go between them to hold my necessary items. You know, things like ammo shelves, magazine holders, extra side arms, the basic never leave home without it stuff. I drove my wife's Toyota Sequoia yesterday, and I felt like a fish out of the water. I just gotta drive a real truck. I parallel parked my Am-Gen Deuce down town, no problem. Took three spaces to get it parked, but it only took up two spaces worth of parking meters.

One thing bad about a Deuce. Drive in Academy Sports, or Bass Pro and you'll never get in the store. So many people head you off, Where ya get that thang? How much was it? Can I get one? Can I get in it? I don't mind, but before I know it, the store's closed.

Ok so what are your thoughts about using a electronic irrigation pump? I have 2 new ones sitting in my shed and didn’t think I could use them cause they where for water but if you are using water pumps then maybe I can.

If it works, use it. My theory is, use what you have. And I didn't have anything else. I had thought about going electric, but sometimes AC is not available. You may be pumping at a construction site, etc. where AC is not available. I tried 12 volt pumps, but they just didn't get me where i wanted to be. You can get some old Army water pumps that are made a lot like the HF Pump, built with a gasoline engine and a pump together. I can put my hands on a few of those but the engine or pump may need re-building. Who knows with that auction stuff.

Hook up your electric pump, and try it. If it works and you can deal with the power issue, I'd say, giddy-up.

Are M1008's set up to run WMO already?
Almost any diesel will run on WATF. My son has a Ford 1 ton dooley, I believe it has a 7.3 International diesel. He runs straight WATF all the time. I've looked at a lot of Multi-fuel Deuces, and I have never seen a Density/Fuel Compensator hooked up, and it's running everything but diesel. Some of the 1968 models have a placard stuck to one of the oil filters, that say, "See manual for hooking up compensator to run alternate fuel" So it's not mandatory to use it. Actually I've never heard anybody say anything good about the compensator.

I have been told "Diesel only in My M35A3" Apparently the CAT motors don't like WMO and the injectors aren't cheap to replace.

Louisiana must be a little more relaxed than Illinois. When we pack heat we have to conceal it, and can't leave that stuff in the open. Concealed carry is almost impossible to get approved for. Our laws are quite a bit stricter. **** if we want to drink and drive we even need to camouflage the can to make it legal.

A3? Dude! Isn't that Power Steering and a Allison Automatic? Pretty uptown sled you're driving there. I'm driving the truck my daddy used to have to walk to school in the snow in.

On the right side of my engine block, both on the White LDT-465-1, and the Continentals it says "Multifuel" Also, on the panel, there's a placard that says what not to run as fuel. I know the new Deuces, those Cabover looking things with the four 16's will only run on a certain fuel. I don't remember what it is, but the Cat engines in them are not Multi-fuel. Maybe yours was one of the first, or last, whichever, that would actually run on diesel. Maybe diesel will get real cheap.

Ok wile reading on a different forum I had a stroke…of genius! Actually im steeling an idea from another person lol
I store my wmo in a 75 gal heating oil tank witch has a fitting on the bottom for running in to the house. So as im trying figure out how im going to pump my oil in to the filters with just the right presser it hits me. Air! Make a pressurized cap for the top of the tank with an air inlet on it to run about 10 psi in to the tank to push the oil thru the filters and in to the holding tank. And as for getting it in to the truck I have a transfer pump from a large fuel tank I am going to use.

Does smoke come out of your ears when you think? It does mine. I have to swing the windshield open a little more to let it out.

You may hate me for this but, Harbor Freight has an air pump, and it's not expensive. It is designed to screw into the top of a plastic or metal drum. (2 different sizes on one pump) You screw it in one hole at the top of the barrel and keep the cap on the other hole. It has a nipple to connect an air line to and pressurize the drum, thus forcing the contents out. VERY IMPORTANT FACT! - A plastic drum only needs around 10 (YES TEN) or less lbs of pressure to do the job. If you get the pressure too high, it's like a balloon, it will pop, or should I say EXPLODE! I would set the pressure on your source compressor to 10 (THAT"S TEN lbs or less)

Keep that in mind with whatever you do! Or you may have to change your name to bubba splattered all over you!

Thinking is a very good thing to do, but you must carry the thought to a logical conclusion.
