OK, next topic on this thread, OVM to get the truck ready for a 225 mile run. The TMs cover this well, but one item that always poses a problem is the fire extinguisher. Since becoming a firefighter, these usually forgotten items have a renewed importance to me. Problem is, which type and brand extinguisher fits the bracket already on the truck? I have found that lots of times, the brackets are specific to a certain mfgr of extinguisher. On mkcoen's truck, this was not the case. His truck has a universal adjustable 5 Lb ABC extinguisher bracket that had retention straps made of worm drive hose clamp material. I installed an Amerex 5 lb ABC extinguisher. My truck has a non-adjustable bracket, and the Ansul Sentry 5 lb ABC fit it fine.
Already have one packed for the trip. I did wonder what size lug nuts are on the truck though so I have the appropriate socket for the RoboTool and how much material do you need for a base for the bottle jack? Also packed is a battery powered flashing yellow beacon for the back of the truck (although the MRS will be following with a chase vehicle never too much visibility material), slave cable (although if I need a jump not sure where the other milveh will come from), the -10 in paper format and the other TMs on a flashdrive.

I reviewed the tire changing procedures in the -10 just to be sure I'm up on what needs done. I've only changed 1 tire with CTIS before and it was on a 5 ton sitting along side the road in 100 degree weather so much of that is still a blur although I remember it was a pain to get it rotated enough that the CTIS lined up correctly.

The lugs are 1 1/2" same as all other Budd pattern military trucks. For the CTIS banjo bolt, I always grab an adjustable (Crescent) wrench. For jack cribbing, I would get 3 pieces of 4x4 timber, each 1' long.

Thanks! I was going to do the greasing this weekend but guess that saves a little time. I don't suppose you could change the tire if I mail it to you? KIDDING! I need the experience.

Voltage regulator as supplied by suprman is fully functional. All systems go for road march to San Antonio this weekend.

While it's easy enough using the "search" function to find pertinent information, it might not be a bad idea to get a sticky going with typical PMCS items such as belt numbers, the 0-ring information for the hydraulic pump, headlight size/style (since so many folks think they're 24v), wipers, etc. Once I get mine home and start the thorough PMCS I'll be happy to participate but to get things going:

Water pump belt - CAT 061-8384
Alternator belts - Gates 9580
Will add the AC belt number once I start the install

Both of these courtesy of NDT on his thread about the water pump specifically. Closest CAT dealer is about 35 miles from my house so I just got one off eBay and the alt belts came up under O'Reily's, NAPA, etc. so should be easy to get local.

Heading over to NDTs on Saturday. Should be about 6 hours +/- from his place home. I'm not going to jinx it by saying it should be uneventful but at least the weather is supposed to cooperate.

Picked up the alternator belts at Advanced Auto today. I'm not sure if Gates changed their number or when switching from CARQUEST to Advanced they changed the number but here's something additional to use as a cross reference when trying to source the belts. The new sticker had both the old number and the new one on it. Check around for prices as they vary greatly. Advanced was $21/per, NAPA $17/per - but they were out of stock, vbeltguys.com $9.45/per. I ordered some online but since I need them Saturday I got the ones at Advanced too. The extras will just go in the tool box.

Well it cost me $100 but I finally got the tires unloaded from my trailer. I hired a couple of guys to manhandle them. Less than renting a tractor or bobcat so I came out ahead.

Michelin loaded in the back of the pickup is going on the 1078 tomorrow when we recover it.

I'm a little worried about working around the tires .If and when I get one. Have a old back problem and I keep thinking I'm still 18. Good idea to rent some other backs.

Absolutely! These are around 350lbs each but the ones with runflats in them are around 450lbs. That's tough even when you're 20.
