Workspace request. Marietta,Smyrna, Ga area.

Hi guys...

I have a simple request.

Tomorrow Sunday 10/28/2012, sometime in the afternoon most likely.

I would like to do some minor work with the batteries/cables,
and maybe tighten the new drivers side alternator belt...

But the rules here dictate people cannot work on their own vehicles here.
And they do enforce those rules. (The manager or security officer is always walking around,
also security cameras are everywhere... etc...)

So would anyone be kind enough to allow me to borrow some form of workspace so I can get this done?
(like part of a driveway, empty shop space, etc...)
In the Marietta, Smyrna, etc. area..
I can even try to compensate you somehow for the use of the space.
(help you with your mv, buy a pizza when I get paid, or a 6 pack of beer, etc...LOL)

It should not take too long, and I can do all the work myself without
any assistance from anyone, unless you really insist on volunteering
of your own free will.

By the way, I have my own tools/supplies, so I would not need to
borrow anything else.

I understand that he "signed his rights away"..
All I am saying is... The HOA should not have the right to dictate to a homeowner,
what they can or cannot park in their own driveway, on their own private property.
The man bought & paid for his property, he should have the right to park whatever
he wants there.

Also, as for the HOA, just because they may think they have that right,
does not mean they should actually do it..

Just like scientists trying to clone and bring back dinosaurs, just because they can now
do it, does not mean they should. Imagine the havoc that would cause when they actually
do. Can we say "Jurassic Park" in real life... (rhetorical question).

I hope the homeowner wins, this is America after all, it is supposed to be a free country.

If they are worried about property values, they are down because the economy is tanked.
Not because this guy is parking an M109 in his driveway.

Imagine how they would react if someone had the nastiest, rattiest, rusted, ugliest
car/truck, RV, etc parked in their driveway, or in the street in front of their house,
but it was well within the HOA rules, I bet they would try to demand they remove it anyway.
Fearing for their "property values" or any other such bullshark.

By the way, if they want him to remove his truck, then they should also remove any
other form of trucks from the rest of the neighborhood. Instead of just singling him out.

Also, by his own admission, he did serve on the HOA so he was aware of the rules,
and at THAT time, the no truck rule only applied to 18 wheelers... And he knew that.
So he probably thought when he got the M109 there would be no problem, since it
is not an 18 wheeler, it is a 10 wheeler.

I have a feeling that he will probably win... Even if he wins, the chances are 50/50 that
he will make friends or enemies of his neighbors.. But that is irrelevant anyway.

Jay,

Find an auto parts store nearby and work in the parking lot. The shopping center at the intersection of Windy Hill and South Cobb Drive (where the new Adventure Outdoors is) has an auto parts store there and I always see several people working on their cars in the parking lot.

Thank you for the tip. That would certainly be alot closer then Snellville..
I just would not want to get hassled if I did that in a parking lot...
BUT since that store seems to allow it, I may go there.

No offense to Taylor of course. As his offer is greatly appreciated.

Right now, I live in a motel, that does NOT allow people to work on their own vehicles,
in the motel parking lot.

I know exactly where that parking lot is, I have been to that new adventure outdoors
already a couple of times.

I know what I said in that other thread, and I stand by it.

My situation is a little different, I simply rent a room at this motel,
I did not buy into anything, and it is not an HOA.
Just simply following motel rules by looking elsewhere to work on it.

By the way, it was good to meet you at the rally...

So if a person at said motel had a bad battery and the vehicle had a no-start condition, the owner of the vehicle would be forced to tow it off the lot in order to get it runnung???? As long as you are doing simple adjustments, I see no reason why anyone would have objections. It's not like you are changing an engine, trans, or axles. There will be no jacks, stands, or dis-assembly in your actions. Just take your tool box out there, open the hood, and act like you own the place.

Yes, I once changed the battery in my girlfriends car because it was dead,
and would not start, and they got upset with us for doing that.

I would not have to owe you to help you mount your winch.

CJ, only half serious about the winch, its still a ways off. Just moved to the area and finally have somewhere to work on my trucks, more interested in meeting guys with the same green addiction I have.

A friend of mine lives in a apartment complex. He got in trouble for jumping a truck off. They told him to have it towed to a repair shop next time his vehicle needs work.

Found a place to work on your truck yet?

After reading/replying to your thread about the batt cable, thought just occured to me, head to your favorite auto store and buy that cable, then go outside and install it, along with everything else you want to do. You now have a reason to work on your truck in there parking lot.

Just get there early, so you have all day to work on it

Thank you for the tip, I will do that when I get to the auto store. If all else fails.
I was going to do it Sunday, but something came up.

So I may as well wait til I get that cable, so I can do it all at once.
