The HUMVEE's will either be transferred to another official agency, sold/given to some rat's azz third world country our gooberment is trying to curry favor with, or destroyed.

Allowing them to come into the possession of honest, law abiding citizens that would put them to good use is a concept that is foreign to the idjuts that oversee the disposal of govenment (tax payer) equipment.

I was just there in October and believe me I asked what was up with them!
I was told they have to ship them back to the manufacturer.

I've seen demilitarized humvee's but there not cheap, pretty much just a h1. Really not worth it in my eyes. They would rather let the rot away then give them to the public.

I'd kinda like one, Way too much though.
I'll stick with what I have for now. I do see a 1008 or a 1028 in my future.

It's truely a pity about those HMMWVs but they won't be sold to the general public in my lifetime. I had a chance to drive a turtleback towards the end of my career in the Army and it was a slick little machine - even better in my opinion than the civilian Hummer.

I have never heard of anybody giving you grief about taking photographs on a military installation so long as it wasn't of a sensitive subject like a special plane or rocket or such like. Your motor pool photographs are probably safe enough. You should have seen the excitement that I caused though when I took a few pictures of the obsolete tank at the main gate of FT Knox. The gate guard was very annoyed and made me delete the pictures from my digital camera. Maybe I Hadn't caught his best side?

I spoke with some friends of mine in Barstow and the GL rep in Ft Carson and they all aid the same thing. The HMMWVs were all getting sold to other countries because the Government gets about $30,000 for these things when they sell them to Georgia or some such place. So it works to the Governments monetary favor to sell them internationally. I think the different agencies of the government worked together to facilitate this as I was also told that the National DOT made the sale of HMMWVs illegal by the government in the US because of some cooked up story abut the independent suspensions being unsafe for road use.
I could see some reasons why they would not want them on the road as they are designed to be driven by two people. The blind spots on these things are huge without aftermarket mirrors and whatnot. However, I've driven thousands of miles in HMMWVs on and off road and never had an issue with the suspension.
All of this is just anecdotal, no real evidence for any of it, just what I was told.

A cruse up Gruber Road reveals that they still have quite a few A2s and even some A3s in several of the motorpools. Most are parked on the very back rows.

Perhaps we.will see.them on GL soon.

Saw the same thing last time I was at Altus AFB, OK doing my AT. Walked around in uniform looking all official and talked to everyone on base about getting one. Figured it wasn't worth 10 to 20 in Levenworth!

If you ever get to Hooks TX you will see thousands of them in all conditions parked fender to fender on every available spot, just driving around the rebuild areas is remarkable, every part you can imagine crate after crate.

Last time I was in Iraq, there was an M1009 that didnt move for several months. Tracked down who had "ownership" of said CUCV and tried to get my unit to take custody of it and have it shipped home..... Like you said, prison is no way to end up.....seemed like a good idea at the time.
The DRMO out there in Balad had several CUCV's....and humvees, the CUCV's were being scrapped and the humvess turned over to the Iraqi's.

Yes so true about Hooks and bummer that one cannot take any pictures because it is not allowed. You can see this all when you have to go to the DRMO office, the stuff is all over the place there. It is like a military collectors candy store.
