Bumper numbers are for the 9th Group 240th Quartermaster Company. The 54th was also part of their Group. I know the now retired officer that was their battalion commander at that time. Talk to him monthly. I'll give him a heads up about the truck--of course his units all together probably had over a thousand vehicles. At one point he was the largest battalion in the Army.

Hi Carnac:
About to make the plunge for my first MV, and trying not to step in it too deeply.
Currently looking at an m35a3c here in TN that has passed through a couple hands since leaving the Army, so no clue where it came from.
It's been repainted (fire engine red!) by a company in GA, so no bumper markings are visible. I'd appreciate any background you could give me on this one...
Thanks, GP

I think that's it. This thread is officially closed. We did approximately 368 serial numbers this year. That's about average for each of the years but the donations are not showing on the other end to the Gene Vance Foundation. If they are being made, they're not stating it's from Steel Soldiers Project. We should have raised a conservative $5,000 but we haven't even done that in total for 5 years. I was honestly hoping for better. The concept of having to pay to play would add a layer of tracking and BS that I'd prefer not to have nor have the time to deal with. Instead I'll brow beat everyone and hope for a better response in the future. I know the morale kick to me of how little has been contributed versus past time given has affected my willingness to come on line and put myself through digging this information up.

As for 2013, there will be some delay. As some of you know, I've had a devil of a time with the computer I have the database on. The computer I've used has beyond a doubt become an absolute PITA which is and even bigger reason I've delayed in recent months with the intent to get as many as possible gathered up to do in a larger batch at once than one or two at a time. Heck, the computer is even missing some of it's keys and I have to push certain keys in certain ways to get them to work. So bottom line is, the computer is dying.

It is not as simple as moving files. The computer is old and I've been using it since 2007 to help people find this information. I gotta bring my pennies together to buy a computer and then get the database very gingerly moved over. It will probably be a delay in starting up cause I just can't see using the current computer again except to move over the capability.

I also don't like the way my current system pastes the data to the new steel soldiers format. It makes it difficult to work with and I usually have to edit it (more time).

Don't PM me asking to run a number. That only has the effect of ticking me off. I usually don't even respond.

Here's hoping that 2013 is a good one for all of us.
