Easter find M1008 2015

I picked up the CUCV M1008 truck at the Line X dealer last night. It is looking great and the Line X compliments the truck. I am still without internet at home. So I am unable to post pictures. I bought a new computer. The storm done something to the video board on the old computer. Nothing that $500. couldn't fix. I will have pictures to post later today. I have the mirrors and the bezels painted for the M1008 . I will be installing them today. I hope. I also have the newly reupholstered seat to install. The Line X looks good IMHO. Time to finish up this project and move onto a few more. I will get pictures posted later. I hope to have a new computer up and running today also. Have a great day.

I can not access my account from home since the storm rolled thru last Sunday/Monday night and whacked the computer. Wanted to post the pictures of The M1008 after the return from the Line X dealer. Came out very nice. I had my Son Rick Jr. start an account here so I could keep who ever up with the progress. Here it is. I completed doing more work to it yesterday. Time to reinstall the interior. You just have to hate these old dash pads. They are as fragile as potato chips. The dash pad was a new GM one in 1995. That means from 1986 - 1996 this truck was on the 3rd dash pad. In the 2007 Chevrolet trucks the headliner is the thing that fails. They got the new Chevrolet dash pads down now they need to work on the headliners. Anyone that was doing business with me. I'M Back. Thank you Patracy for the help. It is much appreciated. I was trying hard to get back on because I have a few people that I was dealing with on parts. Thank you again Patracy. It was Not my intention to scale the rules and start trouble. I was just trying to reach out and get my message out the only way I knew how. I had filled out the form so many times it came as a last thought to get Jr to start and account. He did skip over it quickly and yes he does NOT have the same birthday as me. Above are a few things I picked up at a house that the company purchased. I knew the WWII veteran that lived there and he was a packer. They were cleaning it out and called the 1800 got junk to come clean it out. Shame they were throwing boxes of stuff on the trucks. I went over at lunch time. I picked up these few items that were on the pile. Shame. I could only imagine what they threw away. I used to visit this veteran and he told me stories. When I was a kid he had German helmets everywhere. I hope they never went to the scrap. But the guys scrapping had no idea what they were throwing away. I grabbed the flags to save them from the trash. The repellent. Not sure I would spray that on my skin. The fuel can was new never used. Vintage 1979. Just wanted to share this. thank you again for the help. It was a challenge but Thank you.

I will save myself the anguish. And what does first refusal even mean? Like I ask a question if someone wants to buy it and get in trouble? No Thanks. I tread lightly here and still get in trouble so not going to happen. And that's about all I am going to say about that. It may be going to a world wide auction site. Today was a very progressive day. I also learned a few things I was not aware of. I was attempting to reinstall the seat belts in the M1008. I used my thread gauge and kept coming up with a bolt about 1/2" X 14. I knew that was NOT correct. I looked farther and got the metric gauge out. It comes out that M12 X 1.75 is the correct size. I never bothered looking because I always had all the bolts to put the vehicles back together. But something happened to the bolts and a box of seatbelts and I was lost. I could have taken bolts out of a parts truck. But what's to learn if I do that? I needed to know. I added an SAE 1/2 flat washer. Looks great and saved me a search. Thanks for looking and have a Great Day. I am a bit ill today. After working in pouring rain yesterday I think I weakened my immune system a bit. Not as tough as I used to be.

One of my least favorite things is the instrument cluster. I noticed for a while that the cluster was a bit dark on the right fuel side. Come to find out a bulb was missing from the center of the cluster back light system and one bulb needed to be cleaned and reseated. I had this cluster apart back in 1995 and replaced the fuel gauge. I replaced the fuel tank sending unit first and then the gauge in the dash. I do my cluster rebuilding in the dash if at all possible. It worked out well today and I was able to grease all the sockets and get them all illuminated. Still sick and pushing myself. Cleaned the cluster lens and reinstalled. Everything A +. Now the dash pad. JOY. I did take the time to dust the column as well as I could at the moment. I will clean the entire truck after it is assembled.

After a short break for a snack and drink I went and installed the left door nomenclature tag and the B pillar VIN tag. I used a few of the pre painted black buck rivets I have. Air gun and a dolly back on as good as new. Not pop rivets but just as well. I have a few hundred if anyone needs any. They are easy to use. I have the dash pad back in the truck. It is the same dash pad I installed in 1995. I am not going to repaint/re dye it. It is fine and looks great. I remember buying them GM dash pads a dozen at a time back then. I think $250. was the cost back then. Door seals are back on and the sill plates reinstalled. I like the Line X with the sill plate. I did add an extra screw in the sill plate so I would not catch my foot on it every time I was getting out. It was a black self tapper. Never notice unless you are looking. Line X looks just like the rubber mat without the rust cavity built into it. Now that GM offers spray in liners from factory I am sure that may have been a CUCV item if it were available back then. I must go pick some apples. I hope to get the door panels on today before dark. I am going to drive the truck back in the garage. The day light savings time is killing my progress.

Today after a day of convalescing I had the Easter find taken to the alignment shop. As of now no word has been heard from them. Oh well tired of having it around me all the time anymore anyway. Out of site out of mind. I have a million other things to do. Hoping for dry weather tomorrow. The cold I guess I will have to deal with that. Still spinning the gears on how to dispose of my M1008 project and get into another one ASAP. The garage at the farm is a option. Mice really like CUCV's. I seen one riding in my M1009 and Cadillac. An hour after it was at the alignment shop I received a phone call. The man at the shop said a man was inquiring about the truck. He ask if he could give the guy my number. I said sure. The man called me and said he was interested. Asked what I wanted for it. I gave him a Buy it Now price he said a 4 letter word. SOLD. I said OK. Show me some money. He ask I replied. I received a follow up call yesterday for more info name VIN. At this point I do think it is gone. But I will still say pending. I was away at work from 0500-1700 today. No phone with me. Left it in the work truck and came home with out it again. I never had a chance to go pick up the M1008. I will make it my goal by the weekend. Never made it to a listing. So I still say pending. When I have CASH I will report.

View attachment 708481This switch/lever is still available from GM. Cost $$$. . Dorman does not make a lever w/o pulse wipers. Sorry to say called Dorman today. I need one so I ordered a new A C Delco. NOT Genuine GM. But I ordered it from a GM dealer because my cost was less. Have a great day. Who would have thought?

Yea OK same deal. But at my dealer they deliver. Keep looking you may find more. I found mine. Not looking anymore.

I am doing the finishing touches on my M1008 project. Nice fit behind the seat with the tire tools and jack. E brake release was missing the grommet. Replaced that with a donor part. Cluster all back in and the 4WD wiring moved to the outside so the wiring is not visible on the floor. Needed a piece of HD threaded rod. The standard Zinc 1/2" rod was not up to the job. I had this piece from another bigger truck. It will do fine. I used the wrench nut at both ends of the tire rack. Saved my fingers and easy to get in place. Now if only someone could tell me the length of the bolt on the right side. From bottom frame flange to the bottom end of the bolt. That would be great. Been a while since I put a spare tire in one of them horrible racks. So if anyone knows the correct length please. Have a great day.
