Yes, always watch wire interference with any other mechanical component. I had an 802A burn down on me one day, because a wire had shorted itself out on the throttle cable. Not a pretty sight... thankful I had properly grounded the set, and that I had a large fire extinguisher near by.

Oh, and if it were me, and the flap was gone... I would just get a black iron coupler, and a short BI rise pipe, and put a tractor flap on it... and never worry about it again.

I have my flap on my 802, and have considered just doing this anyway. I don’t have a warm fuzzy feeling about that flap. I’ve seen to many auction pocs of them flaps stuck open. Clearly a poor design if the flap occasionally has a chance to get stuck open.

I’d do as LITD says, just put a section of pipe on it, and get a cool tractor flap from tractor supply. Forget trying to make a flap. Nice machine. Give it a good hard workout when you are ready to prove reliability.

Tried the pipe section with tractor flap and didnt like it. The tractor flap had an annoying rattle and if you plan on covering your unit with a cover, the original flat flap is the way to go.
Nice looking unit there...

All depends what you want to do... some folks use the flap, but put a quick release pin in place while its running so the actual flap is only installed when not running. Best of both worlds. I am sure it depends too on how close to your dwelling you install.

The original flap on my 803a is fine. It is a very simple design that works and totally seals the opening when it is not running. Mice can't get in. I think the ones on GL that are stuck open have been tampered with. The tractor flaps from TSC are noisy and leave a large area around the pipe that is open to varmints.

The design wasn't the best. Works, but the flap was so often missing, that CECOM put out a "fix". I thought I posted it. Will take a look when I can get into my computer.

The problem with pipe extensions is that if you want to pull the front top cover, it's another thing to fool with. It works, but it would bother me. To each his own.

If you have the plate, spring and rubber gasket under the top panel, the hole is more or less sealed. Lots of sets are missing them.

I have one of those too (a wife that is) who thinks I have lost my mind in buying this. It's the usual conversation.......What do you 'need' that for and I always have to explain there is a difference between 'needing' and 'wanting'!
I typically have no less than 4 on hand... your wife should be thanking you​ for only having 1!

Depends on your local market. For what they are, I feel $750 is a steal personally (have you priced out NEW HMMV tires? Over $600/ea!). You might want to offer the tires for sale to any local hummer owners too, as that might prove to be as equally lucrative.
