I found it a lot cheaper and easier to only date girls who willingly will sleep rough. It's a good selection filter actually.

ALEIGH!! ask the missus Aleigh!!

Ok, Ill admit, in my 30s my girl and I roughed it in a 66 CJ ,88 Cherokee, 12 Rubicon JKU,15 Willys wheeler...all tent camping, and bathing in the Dearborn river in Montana......
After 19 years of camping, 7 of those overlanding in everything from JKs to Ram pickups, we got old.
Now in our late 50s, i like my Gel mattress, and a nice cup of Tea...

At the Overland EXPO East 2018, mudfest/ ice blues festival, we felt a bit guilty in our "living room"DSC00017.jpg. .. not really.

That's the Bose VIC-3 headset. It uses a regular U-229 plug, although if you don't have a VIC-3 my understanding is it won't get powered, so the active noise cancellation won't work. I think it works otherwise though, although honestly I can't remember if I ever tried them with a radio or a vic-1. I have a few of them I got off ebay, for maybe $50 each. I use comtac iiis in the truck and give the bose units to passengers.

We looked at the motorcycle headsets, to communicate with each other, especially when passenger is in the HAB.
We still haven't found a good set link yet...

their is walkie talkie apps for phones now. Use that along with a cost effective headset.... the phones ability to do voice commands and whala..... you have communication system at a good price..... least that is the theory.. not tried it yet.

With a VIC-3 or even VIC-1 you can just put stations in the habitat as well. But since your setup is so... civilized, I'd probably look at aircraft intercoms as well. You'll get to the same place, but the equipment will be daintier, and there are a lot of panel mount solutions.

My LMTV is original including no-sound blanket, so you basically have to wear hearing protection at highway speeds. Since you have to do that, then you can't talk normally, so you basically have to have an intercom, or be good at sign language... I don't have a station in the back and don't bother to rig up my troop alarm so if I have people back there I usually just give them a 2 meter radio and monitor it, you know, if there is some problem, and to stay legal (some states require it).

We run PCI ICs/radios in my offroad cars. But as with the offerings from Rugged Radio, they are pricey. I will echo the suggestion of using an aviation intercom (often they can be had for half the cost of a name brand offroad intercom) as I have known several drivers who have used them for years w/o issue.

While the inside of my cab isn't nearly as loud as I expected, I am still planning to use a 4-place IC with one lead run to the hab (I'll set up a p2t box). And I'll have a car-to-car HAM in both the cab and the hab to be able to keep in touch with the cars and the hand-helds.

I didn't mean to diminish the value of the original military intercoms. My VIC-3 system is great, and interfaced with my radios. OP just looked like he wanted something between a mansion and a truck ;)

WOW!
its that loud on the inside? I only logged in town trips in a none insulated MTV.

I've insulated the heck out of ours, I think it took 13 cans of high density spray foam in the channel sheet metal, and all gaps, before we paneled over everything.
Id say, it is ALMOST as quiet as our Dodge 2500 with off road tires.
its definitely not uncomfortable, after the last 13 hour trip.

and the issue with the phone app, is cell reception. where we go, its bye bye. Heck, it was Bye bye at the EXPO in Hendersonville...

You went manual tire air. How do you like it ?
in a previous conversation it was mentioned he did it using the "manual valve ctis" setup- aka.... The first one of the two bypass the CTIs computer systems written up in here. (second one is more of a reconfigure of the ctis computer)

Actually, it depends on the app. Remember, cell phones all have wi-fi. And you can set up a wireless wi-fi modem (whether or not it's connected to the Internet or cell service). So many two-way communication apps can still function in a wi-fi-only environment.

Given the number of devices that use wi-fi these days I can't imagine doing an RV build and not including a wi-fi capable modem in an RV build. Not so much for the people with phones glued to their faces all day, but simply for the interconnection capabilities.

Absolutely love it, I have complete control of the pressure, 0-120. I can fill tires fast, or dump air fast or slow.... The Army system was junk in my opinion, with not enough options..
I went through 2 controllers, and then found a broken "plastic" housing under the dash manifold.... it was just a weak system.

Coach, what APP are you referring to?
Im interested in that... Im using hand held walkies to comm with the back mansion now, but there too cumbersome, and headset attachments have dead spots and delays....

did you build a HAB? I saw your post on the EXPED site. IMG_1839.jpg
