MEP-002a spin on fuel filters

Thinking about converting to spin on strainer and filters. Are one strainer and filter enough? I am running with only one fuel pump. Will the new filter(s) constrict the fuel flow more than the old version?

Yes, 1ea. is plenty. Using good quality fuel means filters last a long time. Most folks use 2 different micron rated filters, it's not really a strainer, more of a coarse filter and fine filter.
Your 1 pump will be fine. The normal dual pump setup is for redundance, it doesn't really increase flow or pressure at all. Fuel consumption is so low that there is no need to worry about flow or restriction AT ALL!.

Back when 002 and 003 generators were available on the surplus market, many were sold with the original three-filter assembly damaged or missing. NAPA and even Tractor Supply sold a two filter assembly for less than $50. The filters are spin-on if you ever need to replace them. As I remember the first filter removed water (with a clear bowl to see if water is present) and the second filter removed solids. It took only a few fittings several hose clamps and several feet 3/8 inch fuel line (hose) to install the filter assembly. Many generators I restored have this after market fuel assembly. All are still working today. Military diesel in the field and in the dessert etc was often "dirty". This is one reason the original three-filter was on the generators. Most of these generators in citizen's use (like most of us use them) diesel fuel is "clean" and the three-filter assembly is not needed.

What size aluminum stock did you use for the mounting plate? Nice setup, I plan on doing the same thing!

I got the piece from McMaster Carr. I remember specifying 1/4" thick, but I can put a measuring tape on the unit later.

Okay sound great, thank you. I didn't know if I should get 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch thick.
