Questions after crawling under it.

The weather finally broke a little, 40F but no rain or snow so I was able to crawl around, over and under my deuce today. Took pics of data tags on differentials, engine, transfer case, brake lines etc. Learned a lot but came up with more questions. First I found a broken wire on LH side near the front axel. One side went into a bundle near the LH turn signal. Other end went to this box on the steering column near the firewall. Only one wire coming out of it but I'm guessing it has to do with the turn signal? Next pic is the bellhousing and there is an opening where a plug should go. Also a new hardware in the area. Can anyone shed some light on this? An inspection port maybe? Recent work I'm guessing but leaving the flywheel open to contaminates is just plain wrong.

Are you referring to the plug right next to it? Thought that was another...whatever.

Turn signal is completely manual. that probably is the horn like Elk1111 said. If the bell housing bothers you, get another one, dill a 3/16th hole in it and put a cotter pin in it to allow any oil seepage out.

The horn has actually been rewired to a switch on the dash. Maybe this was the old horn. It has the older horn button version and maybe this broken wire is why they rewired it but thought it ran down the center of the column and out down by the gear box. It has hyd power steering so maybe that plays into it. Horn does work but I'd like to move it back to the steering wheel. Guess I'll pull that box and see what's inside.

The steering column looks like the Spicer part that Waterloo supplied with his power steering setup. In that case, the box is where the horn wire comes out. It should connect to the single wire running to the horn air solenoid. You can replace the horn button on the steering wheel with the new setup; they are interchangeable.

Also note that wires on the truck are numbered; there is a metal tag near the connector with a number. You can look up the number and it will tell you which circuit you are dealing with.
