Need thermostat for Mep 005a

Hey guys. Im looking for a thermostat for my mep 005a. Looking for the robertshaw 330-180 but its not available. Anyone know where to find it or a replacement? Thanks

After searching I found a company called BJ's off road that had the original in stock for 23 bucks shipped. Sweet

Well, I ended-up ordering my thermostat for my MEP-005a from Oshkosh Equipment Sales. I also bought the gaskets and a spare thermostat. I've purchased other parts from them in the past, and shipping times and parts are great. I know I pay a slight premium buying from OES, but they stock origianal, military parts, so I'm okay with that. They listed the original NSN number for the thermostats as in stock. 6620-00-841-1892.

However...Upon arrival of the MEP-005a thermostats, as opposed to being packaged and labled with the NSN number, the thermostats are NAPA Balkamp, 195 degree thermostats. (Rather dissappointed, since I had expected to get the original spec's NSN number parts).

So, my concern is the original thermostats specs as listed in this thread above are opening between 177 and 182 degrees, and operating temp is 205 degrees.

These NAPA thermostats are labeled on the box as 195 degree.

Anyone see any problem using these 195 degree thermostats, versus the 177-182 opening/205 degree operating thermostats? I'm thinking I will be okay, but here in the Texas summers, absolute correct cooling is important.

I just kind of bugs me when I expect to get NSN, original labeled parts, yet a part I could have purchased at NAPA (very likely at a lower cost) arrives.

I don't think its a problem. Close enough for government work. But yeah, would piss me off to read all the hype and then get something else. Had they been up front, it would have sat better with me.

Exactly....
The original was a Robert Shaw high flow style. The regular ones work just as well, but are worth about $8 at your local parts store instead of the $25 the Robert Shaw's typically sell for.

I once needed to replace a smashed hour meter on a gen.
Found a listing at a big name generator parts supply house with the original Onan PN and NSN #'s and said N.O.S hour meter.
Think I paid over $50 for this "N.O.S gage"
When it arrived it was the $9 P.O.S gage available on ebay from China in a box marked with the original NSN #
You would not believe how fast I was on the phone with them wanting a refund!
Sales guy says they sold all of the original ones but the "New replacement" one will work just as good!

Actually I just submitted my order to oshkosh for the 005a thermostat and gasket. Lets see if I get original or napa. Will report back.

Alright! Just got the 005a thermostat and gasket in from Oshkosh. Thermostat came w/o box and the gasket in original package just as pictured. Thermostat is a Motorad 195° with 0821 marking on the other side. Will install tommorow and get her on the load bank.

Thanks for the update. That is the exact thermostat I expected from Oshkosh, but no, I got the NAPA. Good for you! Let us know how the load bank test went.
