Hey, I just noticed that those rims look to be a similar design, as the Gama Goat.

I like your bead-breaker!

Awesome! I'm borrowing a hydraulic bead breaker (the manual kind) right now to do the tires on my V-18A/MTQ..... Your method looks faster and easier, it takes me about 20 minutes per tire!

Wow that is one tired looking tire. Nice job!
Yes, it is. It blew during the tow from OK, the only radial of the bunch...

Doghead, the m656/xm757 trucks are in some ways related to the Gama Goat, aluminum, swimming ability and built at about the same time.

Papercu pointed out that the cords could be damaged with this procedure. I only push a couple of inches at a time and turn the tire until it's loose all around. May fab a plate that is shaped to follow the edge of the rim for better performance, still, it worked without any effort to speak of.

Bjorn, will you be fixing the engine in Cranetruck anytime soon? Those outriggers are marvelous tools.

I did that with a spud bar on my 108. It just pushed the spud bar through the tire. A properly designed tool would work good!

Yep, I did the crane bead breaker trick. Still was a pain...

I now have a air powered hydraulic bead breaker, did 18 tires and rims in 24 hours... and didn't break a sweat. Much better than my crane.

I wonder if a 22.5" wheel is big enough go over a deuce wheel and press down on the sidewall all the way around?

I have seen workers in tire shops go at it with mallets and large hammers (duck bill?) to loosen the bead. In my example above, the tire isn't going to be reused, so cord damage doesn't matter, but how far can one go before permanent damage is done and is there a difference between radial and bias plies in this? Image below from the TM...must be easy when everything is new...
Looking for more insight.

I tried using a Porta Power on a few of my deuce rims without too much luck because the foot kept creeping off of the tire before the bead broke. I used the front of the deuce for the other end of the portapower which worked fine. I think the answer with my application would be to obtain a proper attachment for the end that goes against the bead and it would work fine.

I found a crowbar worked best for me. You drive the curved end between bead and rim and then hit it with the biggest hammer you can swing. Move a few inches and repeat. I was amazed at how easy it was when you actually push on the bead of the tire and not the side wall.

A radial tire sidewall will flex more (that the reason they look baggy) so they would be less prone to damage. I think! The only problem is that the only way you might be able to tell is when they blow out. Wayne
