Good show Kenny! I still have enough of the surplus harnesses to just cut and splice the wires, the Packard connectors are already done, well you know, you have some of those.
Always a good feeling doing things to Mil Spec...:)

Are you buying the connectors in bulk? From where?

I am not joking, I think I have a set of those crimpers. I will check next week. If I can remember were to start looking for them. I never even knew what they were.

They aren't cheap Frank. If I'd held out for a while I might have found a pair a little cheaper but they consistently sell for $75 and up.

Yeah, but they're the only thing I've found that crimps solidly without distorting the terminal so badly that it can't be assembled into the mil spec connectors. Welcome to the AF8 Club Kenny.

Mine's not here yet. Jones has one. The turret is not necessary for the 12/14 crimps but if you have one, helps set the depth. Once I get mine and figure out how it realy works and what the right turret is, I'll let all know.

I joined the DMC AF8 club today and crimped my first connectors on 14 gauge wires. The male terminals were a breeze but the female terminals were a challenge. I had trouble getting the terminal out once it was crimped. When it did come out it removed the round band at the end of the connector. Any suggestions on how to avoid this?

I have the same problem. I have been taking the ring off before crimping and then putting it back on after. Not hard with a pair of snap-ring pliers.

I have always hated crimping the military connectors, simply because I can never get the crimp right with the standard off-the-shelf $8.00 crimping tool. It got me so frustrated that I have almost given up and went with standard civilian type connectors as replacements. Now I know what tool I must have to do the job right, and I can look for it. Thanks for the info, Kenny.

That tension ring does need to come off. Jones built a little tool to slide it onn onto and back onto the connector. I do it with picks and its a pain but the end product is worth the effort.

Yeah, lessee what the crimping tool looks like. I could justify another special tool and forward the preservation of some trucks by cleaning up some terminal connections.
