My Deuce progress

I am starting a thread to show my slow long progress on my Deuce. It is an 1987 AM General Air Force Deuce. It has the split brake system which I really like for peace of mind. I first got it back in December of 2009. Played with it a little then started with the front end tear-down to get all new seals, boots and wheel cylinders. I then singled out and replaced all the rear wheel seals and wheel cylinders also. Sand blasted all the wheels and put some nice 11.00 X 20's on it.

Then decided to go all out and repaint everything with nothing left unturned. I removed fenders, front bumper, doors, windshield frame, and a bunch more. Blasted most of these parts and repainted them. Didnt want to install the freshly painted items on the dirty frame and undercarriage. So I Then decided to put Gantry crane to good use and removed the bed and the cab. Spent most of the day power washing and hope to get some primer on maybe next week. I need more time in a day.......

Here are the pics I have so far and I hope you all enjoy. The first one is the day I got it and the last one is of my little helper I will post more pictures as I get further along.

Here are pictures from today. First picture is what it looked like on Saturday morning and the next one is what it looks like now.

Pulled the motor and trans out today and then finished power washing everything. Looks kind of funny looking out back and seeing 6 wheels a frame and steering wheel/column sticking up out of it....

I hope to start prepping the frame this week so that hopefully I can prime it over the long weekend.

What kind of tires are those and how do they handle? (If you've had it out on the road) Are you running them as singles or do you just have the inner rims on for the refurbish?

They are Michelin's XL's I believe. I have not had them on the road yet but they handle pretty good pushing it in and out of the garage LOL...

I will be running them as singles since I could only get 8 of them. Now that the hubs are flipped it will be ready if I decide to go bigger. I dont see me doing all the work involved with flipping the hubs to just run duals again and have to buy more tires.

Here is some updated pictures of the progress. I finally got the frame on stands and just finished spraying all the primer tonight. I used Rustoleum Rusty metal red primer and thinned with Acetone and sprayed it through my Harbor Freight cheapy spray gun. It was a little hard spraying the stuff on the bottom because the of the paint cup being on top of the gun. When you I would tilt the gun back to much the primer would not spray. I may have to try something different when I actually have to spray the paint. Does anybody have any suggestions on a better paint gun that would work for spraying the bottom stuff. I assume it would have to be some kind of gun with the can on the bottom. I dont have any experience with one of those kind though.

I will let this dry for a few days before doing any actual paint work.

I used one of these on all of my Mil paint jobs...the only way to paint upside down [thumbzup]
