That's brilliant. When I make up my road-ready tool kit I'll be sure to have a section of 4-8 copper wire.
Out of curiosity, what tool did you use to get that giant castle nut off? Haven't removed mine yet, but I'm guessing a pair of channellocks will do it.
I may just bite the bullet and pick up a new PCB. Replacing it might make a few of my electrical issues disappear. I'd rather do that then replace four 6TL batteries.
VERY interesting... Indeed my lower blower works, but high does not. I have an undiagnosed ABS fault so the light is on (which is my next project to tackle). As far as the ABS is concerned it does not even self check so its either a bad ECU or its not getting power at all. I can tell you already...
Solid advice. I've already got a few wrenches, including a big 1.5" adjustable, in the cab.
I might do a search on here for a thread for the ideal emergency/road-ready tool kit and put something a bit more comprehensive.
If this happens again I'll surely take note. As I'm not 100% sure what caused this it's a bit unnerving that it may happen while I'm out and about (instead of happening when it is safely parked).
UPDATE
So I went out tonight with tools in-hand to take a crack at this thing. I should note it was just as cold as it was the night it failed to turn (about 36 degrees F). First I made sure the batteries were still putting out 24v. Indeed they did - multimeter confirms just over 24v. I then...
Very true! Now I did indeed make sure it was in neutral. That I'm sure of.
Question at large though... When shutting off the truck I leave the the shifter in neutral. Once shutdown is complete I move it to 1-5 where it sits until I go to start next time (moving it back to N of course). This...
Starting a thread here to get some ideas flowing. Hopefully I'll have time this Sunday to dig into the problem a bit further.
So I go out Friday (12-19-14) around 2300 to start & warm up my 1990 BMY M923A2. I flick on the battery switch, turn the ignition to run and nothing. No clicks, no...
So I've found that in TM 9-2320-272-24P-2 sections 0313 to 0323 cover the CTIS system parts. It's hard to relate to the actual truck since I'm in front of a computer and my M923A2 is sitting in a shop.
Anyone who has removed their M939 series super singles with CTIS have any input on removal of...
Maryland State Inspection: I need your advice! CTIS & Wheels
So I have my 1990 BMY M923A2 in a local Baltimore, MD truck shop for Maryland State Inspection. This is the last hurdle I need to clear before it gets tagged and ready to be enjoyed long-term. I know some people might ask why it isn't...
It might be a bit excessive, but I have a keyed battery cutoff that is going in later this month. Since it is street parked I really don't want people messing about. Between the door handles, ignition, battery cutoff, locking fuel cap, and locked tool boxes its about as secure as you can make...
Now how cool is that! Happy to see another Baltimore SS member! I live right in the neighborhood at Silo.
Indeed I do keep it street parked in front of Fort McHenry. I don't have much time during the day to work on it, but you'll catch me at night out there with my sedan backed up to it and my...
Thanks for the complements! I'll be sure to post up pictures & video of future projects.
Will do! While I won't be doing anything major like a body-of-frame restoration I do enjoy tinkering with some of the smaller things. Looking forward to see what else I can come up with and share with SS...
So about two weeks ago I took the plunge and got my very first Steel Soldier! I'm proud to call this particular 1990 BMY M923A2 my own. When it comes to modification & working on the truck I am a bit limited as I only have basic hand/power tools available, and my "workshop" is the quiet end of a...
Might anyone have a picture or a bit more direct advice on where to grab the 24v power source? I'm doing an install on some reverse lights today. I've got my switch panel rigged up and the rear lights should go on no problem... I just need a good power source!
Also curious as to what gauge wire...
Problem fixed! After I got the protective cover off it was readily apparent that that large fitting (1.25" nut) and the rubber seal was loose. A few turns of the wrench and all went back to normal.
So I had to wait on the soap-spray test as temps dipped to 28 degrees F last night, but I did notice that the valve unit has come completely loose from the protective cover. It was only held onto the wheel by the hoses. It appears there are two bolts/nuts that have come loose which permitted the...
Since the CTIS is a relatively new system to me, I'll take basic precuations like draining the air from the system prior to turning any wrenches. I'll be sure to have the TM saved as a PDF on my phone right next to me. Any other words of wisdom before I crack this thing open?
I'll update my...
