LMTV / FMTV AC Air Conditioner Compressor Mounting Brackets Install Write Up

Its not too bad of an install just takes a lot more time than you would think. Not technically challenging really just being aware of what your messing with. Its interesting to be standing between the tire and the frame to get at the brackets but once you get over that you should be fine. Go...

Are there any high mileage FMTVs?

From the condition of my truck when I got it (pretty good shape FYI) and almost all the GP trucks I see sold or for sale on GP, these trucks we are buying (with a few exceptions I assume) are NOT coming to auction right from active military units. I am going to assume my truck coming out of Ft...

    6x6 axle question

Coachgeo, Sorry to hear you had a fatal failure on the rear shaft. I have checked my 1078 rear shaft angles with an angle finder and they are actually not as severe as I had thought originally. As Suprman wrote there was probably something not installed correctly with the rear end setup/change...

Re: Air pressure on the brakes of an M1081!

I don't want to steer you wrong... There are 3 or 4 shuttle valves under there all located in the same spot. I am trying to remember who knows EXACTLY which one to check, Suprman, LMTV772, ?

Re: Air pressure on the brakes of an M1081!

Hi there FloridaAKM, Not building pressure beyond 60psi due to escaping air. Sounds like a shuttle valve blew its little diaphragm and is leaking out the gladhand. Others have more experience on which one than me and have discussed the same issue. I believe its one of the three shuttle valves...

LMTV / FMTV AC Air Conditioner Compressor Mounting Brackets Install Write Up

I posted some of this in the AC thread but thought it would be helpful to have its own write-up for the AC Compressor brackets installation. This is a write up using the two key upper and lower brackets used to install an air conditioning compressor on an LMTV. I did this installation on my 1997...

Oh snap! That is the concept I was talking about by "clocking" the pinion up. Not much required just talking 2 or 3 degrees... Hmmmm...... OD

    LMTV Air Conditioner

I was going to do a write-up next for the compressor brackets but I have been tied up trying to finish my sound deadening project first... I may still go ahead and start a new thread specifically for AC Compressor install. Here is the compressor mounted up using the two brackets. CAUTION is...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

NDT - " I should mention that the grand plan is to prep the truck to drive to mkcoen's AO under it's own power. First order of business it to get the dead Hawkers on the AGM chargers. " Someone should get a couple of those little pop-confetti thingies to use as a 21 gun salute when mkcoen gets...

LMTV - Sound Proofing & Insulation Mods (Post Your Proofing)

Almost done! Here is the back wall ready to put the plastic cover back in place. I doubled up on soundproofing in the 6 void spots on the back wall as well as recycled the old pad under the center hump (installing a new hump mat) by cutting it up into pieces to fit in the void spots as well...

    LMTV oil pan gasket change

jib, mine is a minor leak at several places around the pan gasket. I think after my 220 mile trip I had one or two drops on the ground so its really just weeping. I degreased my engine when I got my truck so I can see any new leaks. I agree with you, someone around here must have done this...

M1083 , Electical Issue,Needed Advice would be so appreciated!

Disconnect your batteries right now! Then take off the power distribution panel cover and see what the heck happened. Sounds like a hot lead came loose or a primary wire rubbed against something to fray the wire and is arcing. Don't try to turn the power on again. Be very careful taking the...

m1078 to A1 driveshaft parts source

LMTV772, I was referring to the GKN Rzeppa CV joint driveshaft that was submitted for the LMTV study. The one people are referring to is a double cardan CV joint with two hinged u joints. They also tried that one. Modern jeeps have the Rzeppa joint. I have experienced driveshafts bouncing down...
