    M917 driveline knocking?

Well, after $1800 at the diesel mechanic they threw up their hands and said the noise was a mystery to them. So I took it back to our shop and started going over what I thought could be the cause. Drained transmission. Only a flake or two on the magnet. So I drained the forward rear axle...

    M917 driveline knocking?

I heard it immediately yesterday evening on my first trip out to the pit with the window down. I heard it as a car passed by me and the sound was reflected off the car. My boss and I have been driving it for months, windows up, headphones on so I have no idea how long it's been doing it. I...

    M917 driveline knocking?

I'm in the lowcountry of SC, there aren't any hills anywhere near me! I do know when I'm pulling out of the pit with 20 tons of dirt on it there is no knocking. That's usually in 2nd or 3rd gear, but the dirt ramp is only like 40 yards long. I don't know if that is enough of a run for it to...

    M917 driveline knocking?

The knock gets progressively faster the faster you go in each of the high gears. When you shift into 13 there is no knock until you get almost to the shift point. Once you shift to 14 and get back on the throttle it starts again. Same for shifting to 15 and 16. Once in 16 it gets progressively...

    M917 driveline knocking?

I have a M917 dump that has developed an odd clunking or knocking sound. The truck only makes the noise when accelerating or under load and only in 14-16 gears. Zero noise in 1-13 gears. Any ideas what might be the cause? Engine runs fine and transmission shifts and engages perfectly. No power...

    Dump truck on dump truck.

Artisan, it's a 30 ton Kaufman. Decent trailer for the price.

    Dump truck on dump truck.

We've run a load a foot overheight down the same route before. It was permitted, of course. No danger of clipping any lines.

    Dump truck on dump truck.

It's nice to have stuff! Bout 2" overheight but the DOT pokies don't mess with us farmers!

    M917 oops (again)

Ha, yep. 90% off road driving.

    M917 oops (again)

The boss was coming out of the property turning onto the highway. Took the turn a little wide and got the front tire in the ditch. Instead of just stopping, he figured he'd power through it. It didn't work as he planned.... And yes, there is a good chance he was on the phone. He is on it all...

    M917 oops (again)

It's been a tough week for the old girl. The boss put her in the ditch on Monday.

    M917 oops (again)

Putting in 7-1/2 miles of 8' tall deer fence. Gotta build up the low spots.

    M917 oops (again)

So, I told the guy driving he shouldn't back past the tree with the pink ribbon. He thought I was challenging by saying he "couldn't" get past it. Good thing we got a big Dozer.

Best Option to haul tracked excavator behind M931A2?

We bought a 30 ton tag to pull behind our 917. It pulls like a dream.

    M917 died suddenly.

Thanks for the help guys! Turns out the fuel shutoff solenoid was indeed the problem.

    M917 died suddenly.

I had to hook a cable to it and pull it onto the property with the tractor. We don't have cell service out there so I didn't find out about the solenoid till this evening. Hopefully she'll crank in the morning!

    M917 died suddenly.

Do I have to unscrew it when I shut the truck down? I assume this is just a temporary fix till I replace the solenoid?

    M917 died suddenly.

So, today I was driving down the road in front of the property and my 917 died. It just immediately stopped running like it ran out of fuel. (I checked, there's half tank) So, browsing and searching the forums has led me to believe that it could be a fuel solenoid. Apparently there is a screw...

    Artisan's M916

Ahab, yes, the entire structure was erected with just the backhoe in the picture. 90% of it was built alone by me, with no helper. Artisan, I've taken you're advice, so I'm following the instructions to the letter. That switch wire was one of the first steps. I only have an hour in it so far...

    Artisan's M916

Yes. Took two 40' containers, put em 50' apart. Got bigger bar joists from the local scrap yard, welded three together to make 120' spans. Then made smaller bar joists to go between em. Milled pine 2 x 4 rough size stringers, then covered with galvy decking.
