what fluid is used in the wheel hub?

I checked the rears today. I put some gear oil in one side then sealed up and headed to the other side. When I opened the plug oil came gushing out. I quickly put the plug back then realized the head pressure from all the oil in the differential and axle was against the second side as it was...

That should work well on a cattle ranch... pushing cows or round bales!

Do I need a factory temp gauge in my hmmwv??????

I'm sure aftermarket can be made to work. Many choose to use OEM to keep the vehicle as near original as possible. Is your choice.

    Checking the FMTV fan system

Thanks! I did completely disassemble the solenoid and clean/lube. The biggest problem is that I broke the smaller air line fitting (supplying the fan) upon reinstallation. Even buying a new solenoid, I would have to switch my fittings to the new one. At this point I've emailed Will (suprman) and...

what fluid is used in the wheel hub?

That's what I thought too after reading the TM's. It is supposed to be a full floating axle in the rear. However, I did notice fill/drain plugs on the rear hubs too. The spreadsheet I linked a few posts back calls out fluid separately for the front hubs and differential. It then mentions only...

m1078 conversion to brush fire truck

I really like this idea. It is a perfect use for this platform. Any departments getting these trucks who would like to sell their cargo cover and bows for some extra build dollars, let me know. I need a set.

    Checking the FMTV fan system

Well, the temp switch checks out. I pulled off the solenoid and did a disassemble with clean and lube. When I reinstalled there was a constant air leak at the bottom port. I don't think my solenoid is working properly. So, today, I took it back out and accidentally broke off the small air...

what fluid is used in the wheel hub?

There's a good summary of fluids, capacity and type in the linked google docs spreadsheet in this thread. It lines up with what I found from my recent reading in the TM's. Thanks to Wes for compiling this! http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?155667-LMTV-FMTV-Quck-Parts-Reference-Spreadsheet

    Checking the FMTV fan system

This is great information. My fan is always locked. I'm hoping a few percussion impacts on the clutch will release it as NDT describes in his thread. If not, I will start troubleshooting the electrical switch and air solenoid as done by tnmogger.

    New Acquisition M998

Nice truck! Don't let anyone shoot at it with a paintball gun. That paint job is pristine.

    53's on an LMTV

Have you tried them on the front? There would probably be more interference with the cable step, but they should fit there too by the looks of it.

    HMMWV Glow Plug Condition?

It's a good thing you got them out of there Wagnum! Some folks have had much more trouble than you did.
