    WWII Antenna "Shape"

I'm not a radio head but I have an hour to blow while waiting for an appt so I'll go ahead and hit this: FuG1 was a listening set normally put in command vehicles. I am thinking this would be akin to the R442 receiver that many of us know. FuG2 27,200-33,300 Kc/s with 1.4m rod was the...

    WWII Antenna "Shape"

It's an antenna. It would be for long range communication and in some cases air-ground comms depending on the set installed.

    German STORCH of WWII

The Wustennotstaffeln operated the medical evac version which was actually the Fi156D-0 and D-1 versions. To my knowledge it only had the pilot and one litter casualty. The main change between the C version and the D was an upward hinged loading compartment on the sides of the fuselage aft of...

"We the children" an observation about our civil liberties when collecting MV curios

I concur with ALL that Jeepsinker said. I would only add that when posting a dissertation such as this, go back and re-read it twice to ensure clarity. That goes for anyone writing posts such as this and/or thinking about writing a letter to their elected officials. Bottom line up front...

    German STORCH of WWII

Isn't a whole lot about German WWII weapon systems that I haven't had come across my desk. I had a pretty impressive library until recently. I started cutting back on my storage and narrowed down much of my reference library. There are just so many different weapons systems that are...

    German STORCH of WWII

That's the Fi256 but only 2 prototypes were built by the Puteaux France plant in 1943-44. It was an entirely new design with virtually no interchangeable parts in common with the Fi156. It could seat 4 including the pilot. The enlarged 4 person version was attempted before in the Fi156B...

Command Cars of Fieldmarschal Erwin Rommel

I think the droop at the front was for brush rather than a signals function 'thing' but I could be wrong on that. In the case of the halftracks, the array could be lowered but it wasn't like a pop pop I'm it's up or down. I think it was a little more involved of an issue than that.

And there was another halftrack with similar antenna but bigger. It was the SdKfz-251/3. The French Panhard armored car was also equipped in some cases with a frame antenna. There was also a 6 wheel version of the SdKfz232. It was very similar to the 8 wheel version.

Command Cars of Fieldmarschal Erwin Rommel

That is a SdKfz-263 which came equipped with a MG34 machine gun in the front of the fixed turret. There was a similar armored car with a rotating turret equipped with a 20mm KwK30 or 38 and one coax MG34 known as the SdKfz232 (8rad). One without the large antenna with the rotating turret was a...

Wasn't the AEC captured from O'Connell?

Command Cars of Fieldmarschal Erwin Rommel

Yep, it was Brit. AEC if I remember correctly. He also used an SdKfz-250/3 as his mobile command platform. The AEC I would consider akin to his forward CP. The ultimate small command vehicle has to go to Kurt "Panzer" Meyer for his mobile command platform being a motorcycle.

    German STORCH of WWII

BTW. Since nobody took the bait. Hitler didnt write Mein Kampf. Rudolph Hess did. Hitler dictated it to him while doing time in Landsberg prison.

    German STORCH of WWII

I had a special course in college on Adolph Hitler and the Third Reich (name of course). We were required to read Mein Kampf for that class. What a whacko, so who wrote Mein Kampf anyway? The Ardennes Offensive was ill conceived. If anything it hastened the end of the war as it used up a...
