Their purpose is to keep the high pressures from distorting the o-rings into a position where they might fail, so the backup rings don't really wear...

I didn't think about the set screw type, so as long as it fits on the shaft, the set screw should do the trick. Thanks for the tips.

I've seen some that appear to be screw on knobs, but not sure how you can verify they would fit? Do you know of any that will fit for certain, as I already considered this, but didn't want to order something I couldn't use.

Anyone know where I can find one of the screw on knobs for the vent or defroster pull knobs? Mine is missing for the vent. I also need a knob for the dash dim/brighten switch. If anyone knows where I could find these, that would be great.
