Nice project and good looking truck. I am going to keep up with this thread because I have a short wheel base cckw that at some point i will start to restore. I will need to find a cab though mine is rusted bad at the bead below the rear window.
I just bought the 12 volt pump and in the process of making a 12 setup to operate it and other 12 volt things. I have not completed this upgrade yet because of other upgrades I am doing but have the pump in hand and plan to make it all work.
I am doing the same on mine but I didn't wat to pay for the fass system. I think mine is a ppg pump. I will have to look when I get home. It 160 gph. With like max 15psi
I'd say check the oil cooler(just above alt), I can't think of anything else on that side of the motor
I was thinking the same unless it is coming out the over flow on coolant tank. Like the oil cooler went out internally and the oil PSI is coming out the coolant cap.
Just a question. I have only ran the overhead on mine so far and when I jacked up the cab with the jack bolts it seemed to help. Are you taking the cab mounts loose and jacking up the cab as high as you can? It may be better if you would take the center rocker box off as well.
The one you call as new is a top stop injector and your old one is a type D injector and if that is what it has in the engine that is what you should replace it with. As far as I know you can't use 1 in place of another.
I just want to put this out; you would be fine with Dex 3 ATF. At Halliburton we used ATF in all of our hydraulics. We did not have trouble with any of our hyd components because of the fluid. I am not sure about the AW-68 but I would think any kind of a anti foam 10 weight hyd fluid would...
This kind of sounds like to me you are loosing connection to the battery be it a ground or power. I think i remember that freightliner went from bat ground to frame then from frame ground to components for a few years. I would start of by taking all the connections apart and clean them for sure...
On the pulling the liner (not on the LDS) but other diesels I have used a jack and an extension to reach the liner and Jacket it out. I am not an expert on these engines but in any cylinder you want some cross hatch on the liner or your rings will not seat. As to the grit not sure there will...
I would say to only get it off the road! The problem is the 5 ton out weighs the cucv by quite a bit and you can not get it stopped very well. I have made 1 recovery not from the base but from a buddies place where we put fluids back in it because it had been drained. we had no problems. I made...
