Legal Issues that could effect all MV Owners

The avatar is not 'up there', it is 'way down there'. Almost to the south pole near McMurdo Station, Antarctica. It was taken on the Ice Runway which is located on the Ice Shelf which is above the ocean on the Ross Sea. The ice is about 50-80 foot thick and is permanent, meaning year round.

I would also like to thank TMNT for the PM about this issue.

Legal Issues that could effect all MV Owners

I just got wind of this issue. I was in Antarctica for the last 6 months on contract job. Thanks to SS Member o1951 for making me aware of it in a PM. I called my Senator today. I also posted on Facebook urging all my friends who love my truck to call their Senator.

    Oil Pressure Gauge Sender Location

I wish it were that easy. The CUCV instrument cluster is completely different from the one with gauges. There are some thread where people have done the mods but it is not a simple thing.

    Whale oil

Interesting. When I was at the Mercedes dealer, we called the MB Limited Slip Gear Oil "Whale Sperm". Now I guess I know why. That stuff would stink up the whole shop.

    Estimated Cost of brakes

Thanks Marcus. When people say emergency brake it is like nails on a chalk board to me.

    Broken seatbelt bolts

Everything I have found on the Google Machine says that they are 7/16x20 and that it is a US DOT regulation that every vehicle made for the US market have this size bolt for the seat belts. I did not measure mine so I can't be sure. So I was wrong about 11mm., but 7/16 = 11.1mm or close to it.

    Broken seatbelt bolts

Seat belt bolts are a special size unlike any other bolt anywhere on the truck. I believe they are 11mm fine thread if I'm not mistaken. All vehicles made have the same diameter/size seat belt bolts, it's a DOT law or something. I know this from back in the day when I converted grey-market...

    m1009 replacement floor pan question

Looks like he did a very nice job.

Did the 12 volt conversion. Made a funny video of the first start. Enjoy.

Love the video. You are a very funny guy. I too want to party with you. I am going to convert mine back to 12 volt when I put the engine back in. WHY? Because it is MY truck and I want to.

    M1009 Radiator Oil Cooler Tubes

I just checked. The ones I was watching on the popular auction site have already been sold.

    m1009 replacement floor pan question

Several things to keep in mind with rust repair. There is always more than you can see, it always takes longer than expected to repair, it generally costs more than the shop originally quoted. I have fixed floor pans on Mercedes for customers so I know all about it.

    M1009 Radiator Oil Cooler Tubes

There is also this thing called Google. There is a seller on a popular auction site that has those aluminum lines. They are NOS (that's New Old Stock). I was thinking about getting them 'just in case'.

fuel return lines- ok to trim?

You should never trim those lines under penalty of law. It's like removing the tag on your mattress. LOL

Documented Curt 14082 Receiver Hitch install on my M1031

Yep, I see that now. I just read your build thread. Nice truck.

Documented Curt 14082 Receiver Hitch install on my M1031

True that. It certainly wouldn't hurt to have extra support. My motto is "If less is good, More is better". My hitch brackets were really long and went around the rear spring mounts and I had to trim the spring mounts. It would appear your rear spring mounts are different. I am assuming that is...

Documented Curt 14082 Receiver Hitch install on my M1031

I did a pretty detailed write up on the receiver hitch install on my M1008 which is basically the same set up as a M1031. I did have to modify a lot of stuff to retain the clevis mounts with minimal cutting of those brackets. Here is the link...

    broken bolt in block

That bolt was broken off in mine. Someone who shall be nameless tried to get it out and broke the easy out extractor off in the hole he drilled. I took a carbide burr that cuts from the end and the sides and plunged it straight into the broken bolt and easy out with a right angle die grinder. I...

That looks like a very violent crash. I hope you are OK. The truck can be replaced.
