Poll - Who has done the Doghead Relay Conversion

The other day I bought my doghead relay from O'Reilly Auto Parts for $9.99 in the lawn and garden section. We don't have a Napa in town and I hate that. Advance Auto Parts didn't have the correct one and didn't even have a listing for it when the guy tried looking it up by the part number. I put...

    Map Light

WOW. I didn't know these trucks had an under dash light. Mine works now that it has a bulb in it. I was in the process of removing the assemblies, door jamb switches, cargo light switch and related wiring for a civilian dome light and cargo light from a 79 C10 parts truck I have. Chrome just...

    Instrument Cluster Questions

A speedometer repair shop can legally set the mileage on a replacement speedometer to the actual mileage of the vehicle. I have done that before. They just have to document it.

    Volt Gauge Light socket...Pic needed...

I have the same grey wire hanging out of the dash. I haven't looked into fixing it yet. Too many other more important items.

Dead electircal in cab after jump start

Having been in the auto repair business all my life, I learned a lot of tricks from my brother. He was kind of my mentor, also in the biz all his life (May He RIP). He told me that if you have a battery that has been drained completely, sometimes it will not recharge on its own with a battery...

    Just some new stuff

OK, I found the photo album. I didn't know you could post albums on your profile page. Learn something new every day. Ver nice truck. Clean looking mods.

    Just some new stuff

OK so I am confused. Where is the photo album? Maybe I don't know where to look. I do like the gauge cluster in your avatar pic.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

The other day I took the instrument cluster out, completely disassembled it and cleaned everything. I painted the inside of the housing (only the part where the speedo and fuel gauge are) with chrome paint per recommendation from another member. I installed the plastic lens from a parts truck...

    dash repair question

LMC is quite proud of their real dash pads but I would buy one in a minute if I had the money. The problem with the coverlay is that they warp and crack in a couple years and look almost as bad as the original. I have bought several things from LMC. They have a lot of cool stuff. I currently...

    Any pneumatic impact wrench recommendations?

I like Chicago Pew-Matics. I had one that I used everyday working on Mercedes, almost NEVER oiled it (once a year MAYBE) and it lasted 20 plus years. I found the exact same model on Fleabay for $25.00 (used of course) and snapped it up quick. Works like a charm.

Lights in the grill guard - show me your pics!

Yeah. Me too. I've got some round Mercedes fog lights (clear lens so not sure why they call them fog lights) that are about 4-5 inches diameter. I should mount them and see how they look.

Combat Jump Bed Mount Farm Jack Bracket

Excellent "Modication" Sir. I call it modication because you had to modify the stake pocket and you fabricated the brackets. That is why I made up the word "Modicate" a long time ago. It looks like something I would do. My compliments to you for an awesome looking jack holder set up.

    Receiver Hitch Install

I used an 8 inch drop ball mount so that my trailer would sit level. I hauled 2 cars on my trailer the day I finished the job. The truck towed them with no problem what-so-ever. It actually rides smoother with a car on the trailer than it does by itself without the trailer hooked up. Now I...

    Receiver Hitch Install

The last thing to do was wire up some trailer lights. There is no easy way to do this like on civilian trucks. I have a T Tap connector from a civi truck that is simply plug and play but it will not work on the Military version due to the wiring differences. So......I had to do what I absolutely...

    Receiver Hitch Install

The next step was to modify the bumper itself. The large brackets welded to the bumper had to be trimmed to clear the hitch. I had marked them when I test fit the hitch side brackets a while back. I used my large grinder for this. Then came the hard part, actually mounting the bumper on the...

    Receiver Hitch Install

I held the clevis mount bracket up to the vehicle with hitch installed in order to mark the area to be cut off. I used the cut off saw to make the cuts. The long cut was a little tricky with the cut off saw. I probably should not have done it that way for safety reasons. The third picture shows...

    Receiver Hitch Install

OK guys, I know I have been slack about finishing up on my install thread. I will try to finish up tonight. Anyway, I had to modify the clevis mount brackets to clear the hitch. The clevis mount brackets were welded to the bumper brackets. I ground off the tack welds to separate the two pieces...

    Glow plugs

I guess I got lucky with mine. Only one was stubborn but a little tug with a pair of pliers and it came right out. I installed the AC 60G plugs. I had to change the connectors as the spade terminals on the new plugs were wider. I needed new connectors anyway because the originals were F'ed up...

How fast does a M1008 go?

That's a slick looking unit. I didn't end up going to the Rally this year due to too many issues with my truck. You would have hated following me at 55MPH with that overdrive. I wish I had a spare 3K laying around. LOL

How fast does a M1008 go?

Your truck most likely needs a new speedometer cable. Needle bounce at low speed and top speed is usually always due to a stretched speedometer cable. In vehicles with cruise control, this will also cause the cruise to surge or hunt at the set speed especially on flat ground. Try a new...
