    Atlanta area, M1009 assistance needed

Maybe you should have titled the thread "Burgers, BEER and Belts". I tightened my Gen II belt as tight as I could get it and the belt still warbles on the long side. I will deal with it after I rebuild my Genny's. Don't want to seize a bearing from over tightening the belt on an old Genny. On...

    She saved my life

I wasn't going to comment but I felt like I should clarify a couple things. First of all, I am glad you are OK. In my opinion, the truck did not save your life, God did. As far as I know, the frame on these trucks is the same as civilian models. It is the springs and other drive train components...

    VIN - year clarification...

I've noticed that GL will often go by the production date to describe what year model a CUCV is. The DMV will always use the 10th digit of the VIN to determine the year model. 10th digit E=84, F=85, G=86, regardless of production date.

Has anyone built an electric or manual throttle lock?

A PTO cable comes to mind like a wrecker would have so they can use the winch without running the battery down. They are very stiff so that they can be pushed back to idle. Not sure how you would connect it to the engine though. An electric idle thingy from an old carbureted car might work, you...

    VIN - year clarification...

Back in the day, vehicles that were built after September of a certain year were titled as the next year, hence the F (1985) as the 10th digit in the vehicle you are looking at. Now days it is a whole new ball game. We actually had a customer whose car was built in December 1993 but it titled as...

CUCV Wiring Diagram color (except M1010)

Thanks for the diagrams. The colors certainly help. Now I know what the extra little module hanging out from under the dash is. I can now figure out why my low coolant light stays on all the time. It ain't the sensor, because I unplugged it and the light stayed on. I knew these diagrams were in...

    Receiver Hitch Install

The next step was to modify the clevis mount brackets. I will go over that tomorrow night.

    Receiver Hitch Install

Okay, now for the hitch spacing. The hitch mounting brackets needed to be spaced 1/4 inch on each side to clear the clevis mount brackets. Fortunately the mounting brackets on the hitch I already had were bolted to the cross brace. It would not have worked otherwise. I bought some 1/4" x 1 1/2"...

    Receiver Hitch Install

I then test fit and loosely bolted the hitch in place. I marked the brackets for the rear spring mounts so that they could be trimmed. I will explain the spacing of the hitch later. You can see the marks I made for the area to be trimmed. You can also see the trimmed area in the next photo.

    Receiver Hitch Install

Wait till you see what I have planned for the front. Think old school wrecker. I know the purists will not approve but what the h%^&, it's my truck.

    Receiver Hitch Install

The first step was to remove the bumper and all the brackets for the clevis mounts. I tell ya, the military did not want the bumper to fall off. There are 28+ bolts holding the bumper, pintle and clevis mounts on. My truck came from Ohio so the bolts were pretty rusty and did not want to...

    Receiver Hitch Install

I test fit the hitch a while back so I knew what had to be modified and/or fabricated. I call it "modicating" for short. The hitch mounting brackets needed to be spaced out a bit to clear the clevis mount brackets. More on that later. The hitch I used was made by Putnam. It is a class 4 hitch...

    Receiver Hitch Install

I got my M1008 for three reasons. 1) My girlfriend got tired of me tearing up her 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4. 2) I wanted my own truck. 3) I think the CUCV's are awesome looking trucks. Anyway, I sell used Mercedes parts and I am always needing to haul junk cars on my car trailer. I thought about...

Noob M1009 Owner asks 12 or 24V Which is better & what is required when adding A/C?

Check out the following thread concerning the A/C compressor bracket set up that allows you to retain both alternators. It is the same set up sold by Nostalgic Air. Seems Nostalgic Air gets the compressor kits from the guys listed in post #5 in the thread...

M1008 / M1009 CUCV Oil Cooler Line Failure

I picked up the new oil cooler hoses from Advance today. They fit OK I guess except that they stuck out from the block further than the original and the support clamp would not fit. I had to remove the bracket from the exhaust manifold that held the clamp. I drilled another hole in it and put a...

M1008 / M1009 CUCV Oil Cooler Line Failure

I ordered new oil cooler lines from Advance auto parts today. I had them look them up for a 1984 Chevy K30 to start with and they had no listing. Then I gave them the Dorman numbers and they came right up. One was $38.00 and the other was $46.00. We shall see how they fit. I need the lower one...

Kinda got carried away..... M1028 rebuild

I meant to ask where you got the nut-serts for the antenna mount. I am currently looking for a dual fuel tank bed for mine and want to put the antenna mounts back on when I find a nice bed. My bed has the normal forklift damage on both sides and I really want dual tanks.

Official 2011 SS Ga Rally Info thread

Well Murphy had a nice visit with my truck last weekend. Saturday while 85 miles from home the entire left side exhaust pipe broke off at the front just past the spring perch. Then on Sunday I figured out what my vibration was. All of the bolts from the trans bell housing to engine had loosened...

Kinda got carried away..... M1028 rebuild

Very good observation cpf240!! I had not thought about that. I believe wooden dowels would work in the absence of the plastic pins. Can't skimp on safety in my opinion. My Uncle was impaled by the steering column on a Pinto in the 70's. He didn't make it.

    oil cooler lines

I called my local dealer about the oil cooler line recall. I gave them the recall number posted in another thread. They said that recall was for a Buick such and such, bla bla bla. They also said that the rubber oil cooler lines were discontinued and no longer available from GM so the recall is...
