    Glow plug wire terminal fix?

The 6.5 engine I bought for my truck has porcelain boots.

    Glow plug wire terminal fix?

That is the type of terminal your do NOT want to run. The automotive terminals have springs built in to them so the resist loosening but more importantly tolerate more plugging cycles. They also have a tang to hold them in the connector body. But, Packard 56 covers 1/4 inch wide terminals. The...

    Glow plug wire terminal fix?

Don't buy too many. I'm not 100% because the dimension drawing doesn't have a width. I think it's 2.5mm. The connectors were originally made by Packard, then Delphi, now Aptiv. The plastic holders should be available as well but I don't have time to search them down.

    Glow plug wire terminal fix?

If you do decided to replace your terminals they are still available from the OEM. https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Aptiv-formerly-Delphi/15418891-L?qs=Z%252BL2brAPG1K4n7tNKtpd3Q%3D%3D You don't want to use spade terminals from the auto parts store, vibration will open them up. It needs to...

    353 Rebuild

At 1200 rpm the 71 series engines in generator applications were actually pleasantly quiet. A 6-71 only made 75 KW in that configuration, though.

    M1009 Little Red Riding Hood.

Speaking of Armor All, I am now convinced that Armor All and DOT 5 brake fluid are the same thing.

    353 Rebuild

If I ever rebuild another 71 series I'll ditch the gaskets on the end sheets and use Loctite 515. The last two 6-71 engines I built had the check valves on the airbox drains and a catch can. They were relatively clean. I made an error building the blowers on both engines and missed a spot when...

    Little to no heat dilemma….

If you're not seeing 180°F on the upper radiator hose your thermostat has failed.

FKM is the generic name for Viton.

CUCV Heaven, My build of a 1009 and 1008

You found the cause of your problem but for everybody else, use Viton tubing from an industrial supply house. The original tubing was Viton but most of the aftermarket stuff isn't. The aftermarket tubing will be hard and full of cracks after a year or two of daily driving. With good quality...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

I used to run the Propel fuel that was available about 10 years ago in my CUCV. I was refilling every 5 days on regular diesel and 4 days on Propel. That was a full 20% reduction in economy. While it was less expensive it wasn't worth the extra time to get to the pump.

    M1151 Bad Alternator? Video attached.

Modern bearings come packed with polyurea grease which is not compatible with most parts store greases. Do not regrease ball bearings without thoroughly cleaning the bearing or using the correct polyurea thickened grease. Lucas Xtra Heavy Duty is a polyurea grease but is an EP grease so it...

    MEP805 and wet stack

I run a fleet John Deere 4045 engines at 10% load 95% of the time with short spikes into the 75% region. We expect nearly 40,000 hours out of a generator set. Wet stacking has not been a problem.

    Pacbrake Braided Stainless Air Line

Stainless braided lines are not typically DOT approved due to issue related to salts (coastal or road) and stress corrosion cracking. Edit: I assumed these were wheel brakes but not realize it's likely an exhaust brake.

    Oil filter

As I describe above Champion was the worst filter I have cut and pressed. I would not recommend it for 5k+ oil changes. The nitrile anti-drainback valve was one thing but the fact that the filter media couldn't survive being pressed was shocking.

Rebuilding after 15 years of storage

The 6.2 exhaust noise from the stock mufflers is very quiet. All of the racket originates under the hood.

Replace coolant hard line with flexible?

Don't judge a hose by its color. It's the material that matters. For hot water hose you want EPDM tube and EPDM cover or silicone tube and cover.
