    Hemtt Camper...

Be sure to post pics of the finished project..... I may not like it, but I still want to see. I just tell myself that there's no hole you can drill that I can't weld shut. 8-)

OH NOOO! Gotta change my meds again!

I kinda like it... I think I'd have done a single green stripe, and I'd have continued it across the cab roof and down across the bumper... Jon

    Yesterdays deuce issues questions

#2 - This was the symptom of my pinion shaft bearings failing on the middle axle.... Try grabbing the drive shaft to see if there's excess play. #3 - Did you service the bearings on this axle recently? If so, it's possible that the outer bearing seal is tight. The New Star imported seals are...

Barstow to camp delta (lodi ca)

As I have explained to JR via PMs, I am willing to haul the trailer to Tower Park but I cannot go to Barstow this week.... If someone can get the trailer from Barstow to the Hesperia / Victorville area, I can take it from there. :-D Jon

    Cable - MX-7777 to Battery

Yes the CX-10071/U cable is two-wire, a center conductor and braided shield for the ground. I did not take the connector that goes into the MX-7777 apart..... I simply tested the cable on the MX-7777 and batteries to make sure it powered up correctly. It did, so all you have to do is use the...

    Best oil for the mule?

I agree, I think 30wt. Rotella is a good choice... But I'd stay away from multi-grade oils like 15w-40, I have read that air cooled engines with their higher oil temperatures will burn up the viscosity modifiers and result in breakdown of multi-grade oils. Jon

    Cable - MX-7777 to Battery

Yes I did end up using the CX-10071/U cable, I did not re-wire it..... I simply cut the other end to the length I needed and separated the wires and wrapped them with Scotch 33 insulating tape and some 'silicone fusion tape'. The thicker wire in the picture is what was the insulated center wire...

    Engine RPM Governor

I expect that crap in California, I thought AZ was better.... Especially Maricopa County. Isn't that Sheriff Joe Arpaio's territory?

    :ditto: Get a 1".... Mine does 1,600 ft.lbs.

    Engine RPM Governor

Are you registering it to the year it was rebuilt as an A3 (1990s?) or the year it was originally built (1960s or 1970s)..... I can't believe they would expect a 40-year old diesel truck to pass some kind of visible smoke emissions test. That's worse than California! It should be exempt. Jon

    Engine RPM Governor

If I knew in advance that they were going to do that to my truck, I would adjust the pedal linkage to not allow high rpm. Why is this required? Are you registering it commercial? Jon

    help! M62 Conversion to diesel

A 6-71 in the older 5-tons is definitely a stretch.... It's too tall and too long. For mine, Memphis Equipment made a special taller hood to clear, and my oil pan has a dent from the front axle hitting it. The rear of the engine extends into the cab requiring a doghouse cover. When NAPCO...

    RT-524 Failure

Well I was excited to use my RT-524 for the first time on the way to Camp Dirtbag, but it's transmitting circuits failed within 5 minutes. I know I had everything hooked up right, I've triple checked it, I have an MX-7777 suppressor and a VIC-1 intercom and everything was working perfectly...

    dirtbag XI

Hey Carp- once started, the only electrical loads are brake lights (when you push the pedal), the gauges, and the electric fuel pump. The gauges use virtually no power. I would drive the truck with the electric fuel pump unplugged but with the ignition switch on, so your gauges work. DRIVE...

    dirtbag XI

You mean brown skies... According to AccuWeather.com: "VISIBILITY: NEAR ZERO IN THE DESERTS DUE BLOWING DUST AND SAND." "WINDS: WEST WINDS INCREASING TO 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 65 MPH FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE ON THE DESERT SLOPES OF THE MOUNTAINS AND...

Spinner II Centrifugal Oil Bypass Filter

You mean they recommended the bigger one? ....I guess I had assumed you bought a NOS one somewhere at a good price and were gonna go with it even though it's a bit big. I've talked to Spinner tech support several times (agreed - very helpful) including before I put the 36SE on my deuce, and...

Spinner II Centrifugal Oil Bypass Filter

I completely agree. I read a bulletin, probably on T.F. Hudgins site, that touted the benefits of the paper liners but said that if you choose not to use them it helps to have a recirculating solvent tank to clean the bowl. ....

Spinner II Centrifugal Oil Bypass Filter

The price difference is negligible between the two units, so there's no reason not to go with the bigger one.... But if I found a good deal on the 1gpm model I wouldn't hesitate to put it on a 5-ton. It will still filter all the engine's oil several times over every hour. Maybe if you drove...

    Deuce Resto

Nice looking truck.... I'll be watching the progress. Always helps to start out with a good one - I had to bring a junker back from the dead! http://www.steelsoldiers.com/members-rides/14250-my-deuce-purchase-present.html Jon
