What year is your M38A1? I have a 52 A1 and it only has the lowers and no uppers. If you have an early A1 it does not have them. The later A1's do have the upper support rods. and after editing and doing a little more reading........its the lowers! HA! Where's Radar when you need him.......lol

    Disc brake conversion on M38A1?

    Disc brake conversion on M38A1?

The kit I looked at said the factory wheels would clear the calipers. So that is not an issue. quickfarms, I'm probably comparing apples to oranges, but yes drums do have more surface for stopping, but with drum breaks they are pushing out to the drum as apposed to disc brakes having the caliper...

    Disc brake conversion on M38A1?

Stopping power. Even with non-power disc brakes it would stop better. Also parts would be more availible. I believe the kit I looked at had a GM truck calipers and used GM brake pads, which are readily availible. Instead of having to find brake shoes or trying to find a place to re-shoe them.

    2013 Haspin Discussion Thread

    Disc brake conversion on M38A1?

Found one on Jungle Jim's Jeep parts for $785.00 and thats all the parts. Seemed a little steep to me. I wasn't sure if there were any later model CJ5's that came with disc brakes that you could swap onto the military axle.
