Best way to hook up a 24 volt winch?

Going directly to the battery would probably minimize voltage loss in the cables under load. Personally, I run mine right into the slave port front and rear because I use a multimount winch. Makes for a clean install with minimal wiring. Plus I can transfer it to another CUCV in the future. If...

    cucv alternator rebuilding

Tough to say, low output could be worn brushes. Jumping voltage could be regulator. IMO, get the rebuild kit and tear them down. Be sure to get a quality kit for an isolated ground alternator.

    New to me M1028A1

There will not be one aftermarket part in that truck :) Congrats on the new purchase, enjoy the new truck!

    CUCV Do's & Dont's

I think the NP205 got filled according to what it is attached to. Auto trans it gets ATF, manual trans it gets gear lube...the NP205 goes both ways ;) This is not uncommon for gear driven tcases along with some manual transmissions like the T5. A CUCV can be basic and reliable. If you want...

    Belt Wiki

For some reason, belts are never easy to find for a CUCV. Lots of varying info and fitment issues. The ones I bought worked but were at the end of travel for adjustment. You may want to source your first set of belts locally to avoid fitment issues. That is the price you pay for going local. If...

    New CUCV Owner

You will have to define "every day trucks" because that varies greatly among people. If you are looking for something that will cruise 80mph with air conditioning comfort and not put you asleep from the noise, you may want to start with something different. That is going to take a lot of time...

    Another engine noise post

Fairly common failure for the flexplate to crack or like mentioned above, the torque converter bolts loosening up. Could also have been improper installation from a previous repair. Either way, just pull the inspection cover and take a look up in there. You may need to find someone with an...

    Another engine noise post

I would say drain the oil and send it for analysis or disconnect the torque converter to see if the noise is engine or trans related. This would be an alternative to running it up and disconnecting injectors to isolate the noise to a specific cylinder or pulling covers in hopes of seeing some...

1031 to shelter carrier dually conversion

Well that just makes it too easy!

1031 to shelter carrier dually conversion

What are your plans for the conversion? Are you going to install a dually bed or fab something up? I've contemplated taking the M1031 stuff and building it into a trailer that the PTO shaft can run to and turn the truck into a more usable DD/wheeler/hauler. Of course the cost of doing all of...

    CUCV with NP205 transfer cases

Man you just gave me sticker shock on gearing. I really want to get into an NV4500 at some point but I have the figure 8 pattern NP205 which I think creates issues. I was thinking an NP241/205 doubler to solve that problem on the cheap and get the extra gearing. I'm thinking that could be done...

Mounted HMMVE 37's now extreme death wobble

Is that kit OK for a daily driver vehicle? Probably worth the money to install if you are in there doing a rebuild anyway if it will stand up to lots of miles.

Mounted HMMVE 37's now extreme death wobble

Agreed, something on my list of things to do since I have no idea if mine have been replaced recently. Judging by the rest of the truck, probably originals.

1031 to shelter carrier dually conversion

Poke around on the rockcrawling sites, you may find someone with a DRW Dana 60 looking to convert over. Win win for both parties.

Mounted HMMVE 37's now extreme death wobble

I'm not sure how we drew a conclusion that it has to be kingpin related. Sure, someone that has DW and replaces the kingpins which eliminates the DW could draw that conclusion. Regardless of what that explanation is trying to get at, DW can occur from any frontend component that is worn out and...

Mounted HMMVE 37's now extreme death wobble

I would consult the TM on how to check. It's been awhile since I've done a kingpin axle and my brain is overloaded with other more important useless information about airplanes, boats, beer, and women. Wait...scratch women...

Try rotating front to back, you may have a bad tire. It will spin balance up fine but loaded with vehicle weight it will show up.

M1009 with 35" tires no lift.

Dana 60 axles are garbage. Please send your front axle to me and I will see that it gets a proper burial!

M1009 with 35" tires no lift.

Keep in mind that unless your truck has fairly new springs or you know they were replaced at some point with a record...you more than likely have the originals. That means 30 years of sag and poor ride built right in to every set. Putting in 2" springs will probably give you really good results...
