you could clean it the best you can and put some flat clear coat on it to keep it from getting dirty. or do like i do jsut paint over the cleaned dirty area with more paint :)
nothing is wrong with it. you posted a good idea just seems like people are worried about how much thread on the stud will be. and if they are worried about it do it the other way and not worry bout it,
mine is the same way its gross and faded and covered with grime. i just put a 10 dollar steering wheel cover on it and its all better. I still want to get a new one some day i just agree with you about spending 270 bucks for a new ones.
