If you want to go with one of those NOCO 12V dual bank units, they stay wired up all the time. The only thing I was told when I called NOCO is that you just want to unplug the charge pack on them, before running the machine. With this pack running, and the alternator producing voltage... you can...
There is a 900lb genset I am interested in, that the current owner has no ability to pick up/load. I am looking to see if anyone is in the area with the ability to get it picked up and skidded (just placed on a normal 48x40 pallet). I can take care of the freight out... just kind of need someone...
You know I've never actually popped into this part of the SS world... funny to see a post about me! Thanks for the kind words Steve. I am glad it made it down safely and you are happy with the purchase. I figure with the amount of MEP gensets that I go through and move around the country...
There are parts available for these alternators. I had to send (3) out a month or two ago to be rebuilt... cost me like $125/ea to have them redone properly. The biggest challenges was parts availability from Prestolite (go figure!). All three had cooked negative diodes, and one needed a new...

There are folks on here (Jamawieb being one) that have much more knowledge on engine failure in these sets than I do. With that said, I've had sets in that I have to chisel the manifold clean of deposits, before even attempting to start. Do you see any material missing from the piston itself, or...
If you remove the rear cover hiding the tank, it will make sense to you. It goes to a barbed fitting and down into the fuel. Just use some small zip ties on all the return line sections at you will be fine.
A chap in TX (SS member) is now the owner of my A427... and its perfectly sized to give his 005 a good amount of testing. It was overkill for my needs... but yeah, you can test machines without breaking the bank.
From what folks have told me, who have purchased machines from me in the last 9-12 months, new diesel gensets have almost a 1 year lead time in many cases. Supply and demand... those folks who want new machines are looking at these because of simply availability.
