I've got like (3) 802s here that will require rack work (the one I started does not get to full RPM, nor does it shut down properly). Just waiting on some warmer weather...
So the ultimate well nut upgrade fitting has a recessed groove to locate and seal the Viton ring. The fitting from McMaster has no such provision. For liquid holdback, you really need this groove.
OK so if you rotate it and it speeds up, try turning the set off and undoing the jamb nut on that back screw and let it move backwards more. It does sound like your governor is out of adjustment, but it should be a good test to see if you can back that limiting screw out and slow it down.
So if that item rotates... does your engine speed or hertz change? It should. Where its set now should be lower hertz, and if the lower edge is touching that longer bolt... it should be higher hertz.
So that cable you turned (frequency adjustment)... follow it back through the machine to where it interfaces with the engine. When you turn the knob... do you see that assembly rotate at all? There are two set screws there, which would hit that rotating piece... can you take a picture of this...
No you are correct, its a wire path. I failed to see the vinyl cover. Some of these sets have threaded fasteners (typically power plant trailer mounted units) that were used for other purposes.
Undo that silver metal nut on the backside of the opening you are looking to pass through. That piece comes out... you might find it fits right in now (and that fitting was in place for another purpose, which you don't have).
OK so I was clearly using my ass to calculate the currency exchange earlier. The price from the dealer is 106.91 GBP, which has a real time exchange over to about $142 right now. Not sure how I got the other figure... but FYI all the same.
All prices shown in GBP
So from Lister (or actually their master distributor Sleeman and Hawken... whose owner purchased Lister-Petter)... both of the oversized pistons right now are $301.26/ea without freight, and without tariff. They do include the rings for that price though... so generous! Stock in the UK.
Glad to assist in helping you dive into the MEP world Andrew. I am also glad you are documenting this repair for future folks looking to do the same. @kloppk was kind enough to help me diagnose this set in person, before it took a drive to Oro-Medonte. I have no doubts your low hour machine...
