FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

Started the SEE and the 1300L today after their winter nap. The SEE really doesn't like the first start of the season. I made sure to prime the fuel filters but it still took a lot of cranking and starter fluid to get it running. After a few false starts on starting fluid, it eventually catches...

SEE - Cold weather hydralic issues

The mill I worked in had a big metal bench made out of 3/4" plate bolted to the floor with various chain vices and chain wrenches. They also had an assortment of big pipe wrenches with cheater pipes and a torch. Sometimes it required all of the above. I bought the special wrench for the caps...

Many come without a hood. They are a real PITA to put on an off and the method of securing them is difficult at best with the loader on. If you really need one Vons Mogs sells Fiberglass ones http://www.vonsmog.com/newunimoghoods.html. There is someone on the Unimog Exchange...

    Just bought a FLU 419!!!

Hard to diagnose remotely. It sounds like you need to spend some time on the air regulator and work your way from there. I had similar issues with mine. I started by rigging up an air pressure gauge to the main air line and confirmed that I had plenty of pressure coming from the engine and...

    FLU419 SEE Wheel Hubs

I have not done the repair or taken the assembly apart. That said it looks like you need an expanding inner bearing race puller. Here is a link to what you appear to need...

What brand are those tires? Do they have speed rating?. Every time I go on the simpletire.com site and try to do search for the SEE tire size, it comes up with no choices. They do look like a heck of off road tread

    boom will not latch

I have mixed success, some days it will drop right in, others it will not. If its on a slope with the rear lower than the front it will not go in unless I use the trick of rotating the hoe and using the stabilizer to nudge it in place.

I just went to local autoparts store and they had a generic mag wheel replacement stem. It fit perfectly except its chrome. Once you see the stem, you will figure out that you need to pop the bead. The pressure is on the inside of the tire so the majority of the sealing is done from the inside...

    FLU419 SEE Wheel Hubs

Not sure about spitting out oil when driven high speeds. The usual issue with folks who drive high speed is that the oil from the hubs get driven up into the axle through the air pressurization system. Generally its the drivers side front wheel that is the problem. Most Mog folks who drive...

    FLU419 SEE Wheel Hubs

you might want to search for 4o6 hubs on Benz World. They have deeper experience base on things Mog (but not as tuned into SEE's)

I have the complete set I bought from Foxkits including the special wrench but I find with mine that it mostly leaks when it hasn't been used. I have an oil absorbent "diaper" wrapped the one that leaks the worst and once I start using it, it really doesn't leak enough to hassle with it. I do...

    Just bought a FLU 419!!!

My property in NH is quite steep and wet in spots as the road is a low spot in the hillside. I know my local mountains in NH are molehills in Colorado but four of the five highest mountains in New England are literally right across the street. Ours are lower as the valleys are around 900 to 1000...

Garaging A FLU,,what do you do? STEEL garage companies experiance?

First thing to do is call your local building inspector and get the ground snow load and wind zone classification. If you talk to someone who doesnt ask for these its hint that they don't know what they are doing or are going to lowball you. Structures built for down south don't worry about snow...

    Just bought a FLU 419!!!

Spend time on the air system, Take it apart and clean out every component. until you dont see any rust flakes. Mercedes really likes air assisted systems. Pull the engine cover and lube all the throttle linkage rods. Definitely drain the portal hubs and replace the fluid with synthetic...

    Just bought a FLU 419!!!

Some things to check Drain and lubricate the air locker pistons, its not in any of the military manuals but I started a thread long ago with info https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?165493-Did-you-oil-you-differential-lock-cylinders-on-your-SEE Check the alcohol tank. The cap sits...

FLU419 SEE, how much did you buy yours for? and some other questions

I expect anyone that doesn't have a sense of humor and mechanical/electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic diagnostic skills are not well suited to a SEE. I find I spend far more time trying to diagnose issues than actually getting my hands dirty. The student manuals that someone graciously contributed...

FLU419 SEE, how much did you buy yours for? and some other questions

$23,000 to 25K plus shipping will probably get you a "good one". This most likely will be a very recent government refurb with little or no hours on it. I would guess the low end is about $15,000 to get one without obvious damage. It most likely will have sat for longer in a depot. Some may have...
