They are available but not cheap https://expedition-imports.com/4068805456. Vons Mogs has used ones listed http://www.vonsmog.com/unimog_used_parts.html. FYI you want the "optional" sound proofed engine cover (which is what the SEE comes with).

I recently described buying a direct surplus SEE sight unseen as buying a lottery ticket. I "bought" one of those tickets and it turned out pretty well but I did a lot of homework. The seller was a poster on this site and had been posting about it for several months on his ongoing progress (this...

Stuck backhoe bucket pin on SEE

Well the fix took about 20 minutes once I had the right snap ring pliers. After bending a few cheap snap ring pliers I ordered a screw type heavy duty version and the snap ring came off first try. I then drove the pin through the hub exposing the shaft on the other side. There was no trace of...

I couldn't resist making the 3000th post on this thread, I think I was here for the first one! Bummer someone beat me to it! Thanks for going to the trouble to size the belts. I going through that on my 1300L and even using official Mercedes manuals, the actual listed belts aren't the ones on...

I agree with Speedwoble, I wish I had done it when sorting out my SEE. Gaining access to the hood is a major PITA with the loader in place. Obviously don't use the backhoe with it off as it needed as a counter balance. If you do remove the loader make sure that you properly support it. It is...

    FLU fuel issues

My vent was full of paint. I tried various chemicals to clean it out but the paint is pretty tenacious. The vent is aluminum so I couldn't go real aggressive. There is manufacturer name cast in the valve and with some google searching I found an exact replacement. Unfortunately it was early on...

    FLU fuel issues

If its truly an intentional coating, I don't think biodiesel will clean it out. Biodiesel acts like soap (glycerin a very polar molecule is an annoying byproduct of making biodiesel). Polar molecules are great at attacking old grease and crud but not so good with a coating designed to resist...

Stuck backhoe bucket pin on SEE

Bringing the thread back to life. I bought a "Zerk Zapper" to try to get grease back to the right side bucket pin. The grease fitting was smashed despite being recessed into the pin quite a bit. After clearing out some very chunky grease from the bore and installing a new grease fitting, I...

    FLU fuel issues

One thing not to do is use any biodiesel before you get a handle on this. It acts as a solvent on the crud that builds up in fuel systems and will clean it out eventually but in the short term it will add to the pain. My 1300L also has crud in the fuel system from sitting in a depot somewhere...

FLU 419 SEE wiring diagram will hopefully be loaded in Misc Technical Manual Forum

SEE wiring Diagram Now that General Hood is out of diagrams there will be demand for the electrical diagram. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?168054-Unimog-FLU-419-SEE-Wiring-Diagram As noted, it does not cover the diagnostic harness or the electrical systems associated with the...

Unimog FLU 419 SEE - Wiring Diagram

Thanks to a Unimog Forum member, General Hood, who located a stash of previously unobtainable wiring diagrams, another forum member had one scanned and made available to all. Notes, The military diagnostic harness is not shown and to date no one has found any details on the harness. The...

Welcome. Given the history of the GP auctions, folks early on tended to get the better units (not all the time) while recent auctions tended to be units in less good shape. This is not a hard and fast rule but an observation. I realize right now you are in the mode of having just bought that...

    Hydraulic / backhoe

It could be stuck travel lock. That's the T handle next the bottom of the tire. The cable needs lubrication and if they aren't they can get damaged. I think they can get stuck closed. The boom isn't lowering with that latched. Also could be travel locks are not disengaging Mine really doesn't...

When I think about it, if you are turning it into a dump, then you do want heavier springs. I guess I was thinking that for off roader you would want softer springs then one needed to deal with all the extra weight of SEE components. With a dump you may want to keep the frame reinforcements.

Great news, those municipal deals are usually a good deal. I think a lot of them are picked up in good faith but the mechanics revolt when they see them so the first time there is a minor issue, it gets parked and eventually gets resold. There also may be a few folks that are working the system...

I am long term listener to the Magliozzi brothers, Click and Clack (may Tom rest in peace), a new vehicle is always an excuse for a new tool! So far its pile of jumbo metric wrenches, a breaker bar and set of 1" metric sockets. I didnt mind buying this new tool as much as I did buying a...

You were correctly on the grease fitting. The plugged fitting is on the right side bucket pivot If I am standing behind the SEE. I assume that there is grease hole cross drilled perpendicular to the main bore hole? The stuff that came out of the hole with screwdriver was decidedly "chunky". It...

Not sure its dribbling injectors as once the unit is first started in the spring after a long winter, it starts and runs fine even if it sits for a couple of weeks, no significant smoking.

Spring Startup- Living up north, the SEE gets parked over the winter and then through mud season before running it spring summer and fall. I can start it earlier but its parking spot requires driving along a shared right of way with a neighbor and it really doesn't dry out until June. The SEE...

Even on the 1300L mogs with an air dryer there is also an alcohol bottle for extreme cold weather operation. I expect in a pinch it can be a back up if the cartridge is plugged. I had thought that my proposed inline lubricator could also be used in pinch for alcohol. The big unknown on a...
