Overcharging after alternator rebuild and new belts?

With the motor running it was 14.6 at the rear battery and 14.88 at the front battery. Both passed whatever automated charging system test they use at vato zone. Seems high to me, but maybe not dangerously high. Especially considering the driver side alt must have been running that high since...

Overcharging after alternator rebuild and new belts?

Finally fixed my gimpy gen 2 that was either not charging or barely charging my rear battery. Which great, no more dimly glowing gen 2 light. But now that its fixed the voltmeter is reading in the low red. Worth noting I did give the rear battery a 1 hr charge at one point. Does the voltmeter...

    M1009 Pintle Hitch Strengthening?

Yeah i think just not towing with it at all is the best option for me. Thanks for the input everyone.

    M1009 Pintle Hitch Strengthening?

So you modified a class 3 hitch so it was poking out from where the pintle used to be instead of underneath? If so thatd be a great solution for me. I'd be interested in seeing pics.

    M1009 Pintle Hitch Strengthening?

No doubt that that's a way stronger design, but I want to avoid making my departure angle worse.

    M1009 Pintle Hitch Strengthening?

The only trailer of mine I'd feel comfortable with is the 4x8. Roughly speaking I'd guess the trailer is 700-800 lbs empty and pulls easy enough where you'd forget it's there with a 2nd gen Tahoe with a class 3. I don't know anything about military trailers, so not sure how my trailer stacks up...

    M1009 Pintle Hitch Strengthening?

Is there a good way to strengthen the internals of where the pintle mounts on these trucks? I've heard all kinds of horror stories about other people seeing military trailers along the side of the road with ripped out pintles and bumper mounts still attached near army bases in the 80s and 90s...

Looking for the correct color interior for M1009

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't all cucvs start with gray dashes from the factory? I don't personally care to keep that original for my rig, I'm just curious for my own knowledge. I ordered a repro dash for 200 something and painted it with that sem stuff and it turned out pretty nice. I...

Looking for the correct color interior for M1009

I almost snapped on those when I first saw them a while back. They definitely look kickass, but I didn't get them with the thinking that polyester wouldn't be a big improvement heat wise to vinyl. But I'd be overjoyed to be proven wrong, I really like those.

Looking for the correct color interior for M1009

Does raise a question I had, since a lot of interior buffs are watching the thread. Has anyone ever found cloth seat covers that match (or almost match) the original bronze? Once my truck is finished I fully intend to drive the heck out of it, and vinyl is terrible in summer. Doesn't matter to...

Looking for the correct color interior for M1009

The color is actually called bronze from the factory like cucvrus says. Unfortunately I've found unless you buy NOS cucv stuff there's nothing to be had in new condition i.e. nobody makes repros for our trucks' interior color. The stuff you're looking at is straight red from the civvy trucks and...

    Dash bulb troubles...

I had the same issue with my turn signal being illuminated constantly with the lights on. Though my front amber light wouldnt run with the headlights on, i could only get it to blink. The issue was the bulb in the turn signal lens itself wasn't making good enough contact due to the socket being...

M1008 CUCV Passenger side alternator issues

You probably already know this one, but I'll mention it anyway. The alternator (at least true of gen 2) will do absolutely nothing if the dummy lights aren't working. Found that one out the hard way complete with the visit of a tow truck..

    cucv charging system m1009

Thanks for that info doghead, I'll take a poke at that.

    cucv charging system m1009

So the truck is designed to have a faint glow on Gen 2 when everything is working properly? The glow plug thing accounts for the relay click and the voltage drop at least.

    cucv charging system m1009

I've had a similar thing with mine since day 1. The Gen 2 light has a constant dim glow. The voltmeter reads in the low/mid green, and the truck always starts like a champ. Only weird hiccup is after not running for awhile the voltmeter will fluctuate between yellow and green 5-6 times with the...

    CUCV Integrated winch mount.

What kind of enhancements did you have to make to the front end to have enough strength Muddobber? The look is pretty awesome, even better if it's functional.

    CUCV Integrated winch mount.

It's cool looking, but I don't think it'd be strong enough for winching a 5200lb+ truck.

    Where's Your License Plate?

I have mine hung below the rear bumper toward the driver side in a way that easily swings, but has an extra piece of steel on the back to make it heavy enough not swing to the point of being illegible at highway speeds. I didn't want to drill a bunch of holes in my truck, have the plate on the...

    Adding a tach?

    That's brilliant! Thanks Rich.
