Skip to the 9:30 mark of this video (from "The Gods Must Be Crazy") to see one way to take the top off (a Land Rover). Could work for a M1009 to, I guess.
This is how I do it now. I lower the back glass, unbolt the top, and pull it backwards a few inches. Then, put the ratchet straps between...
So, I was kinda sorta interested in finding a Deuce to buy (especially because of multifuel capabilities). But first I'd kind of like to see one in person just to see what they're like. Does anyone in SE Missouri have one I could take a look at? I'm in the Cape Girardeau area.
I was told (from several sources) that it's a good idea to lock your hubs at least once a month, whether you are using 4WD or not, in order to keep the parts lubed.

Here's how I did mine. If I did it again, though, I'd put the CD player level; the little motor has a hard time pushing the CD out vertically.
The blackout switch controls the horn as well as the lights. A friend called this the "Stealth Mode" switch.
That vent by your feet comes in handy in the summer. I didn't even notice when I got mine in during a December and I wondered why my feet were always so cold in that thing. Turns out it...
The hardest part about taking the top off with two people is finding a second person.
I was hoping eyebolts through the top would work, because they would come in handy for other stuff (tying something to the roof, like a ladder, for example).
What I might try is looping 2-3 ropes...
I really like driving my M1009 without the top, but I really don't like finding another person and wearing myself out to take it off.
At our house, there is an old satellite dish post (pretty sturdy) about 10 feet from a tree. I was thinking I could put 4 eye bolts in the top of the hardtop...
Here's how I put a stereo in.

I ended up just letting the magnets on the back of the speakers hold them to the wheel wells. It works but a better setup is needed; people getting in my truck often throw their crap on top of them.
I got more offers from people wanting to buy my truck in the 2 weeks I had the top off than I got the rest of the year.
Plus, the ladies like a "convertible". :-D
I use the Wellmans too, but had a hard time finding them in a store. I went on Wellman's site:

And bought them from IND USA. It was $60 for 8 glow plugs.
I think my crappy old fuel cap has been the root of my problems with my M1009. It starts clicking once you start turning it (instead of after it's tight), so it's difficult to get tight. Water gets in the tank because the cap's not on tight, leading to rust and other problems, etc. I also have a...
Mine was making a viola noise too. So, I tuned the U-joints down and converted it into a more pleasing cello noise.
Now my truck sounds like this:

I drive mine daily, about 10-15 minutes one-way to work/school.
Yes, it is loud. Especially in the morning when it's cold. I'm sure my neighbors love that at 5:30am Saturday and Sunday...
I've taken mine on 2 1/2 hour long trips, and I managed. No big deal.
I put a stereo in mine, it wasn't...
High revving is normal when the engine is cold. I believe there is a solenoid on the IP pump that controls this. It runs like that for a few minutes to help the engine warm up faster. Until it goes off, it might feel like your accelerator is stuck. You'll get used to it.
BUT I would get that...
