    Engine knocking LDS-456

I had always thought it was just the right thing to do, however I may well be wrong. To be completely honest, I've never done this before. I've rebuilt several of my dirtbikes over the years but I've never done any repair like this on a vehicle. If that wear is considered runnable then by all...

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Allow me to correct myself, I'm in the process of figuring that out and ordering the bearings and such. The only thing I've bought and paid for is the gasket kit so far

    Engine knocking LDS-456

I found a NOS piston liner combo on eBay for 95$ so I just ordered the pair, better deal than trying to buy separately. Plus the lower rod bearing looks like it's been beat up, so I'm just gonna buy a full set of those too instead of just doing one.

    Engine knocking LDS-456

I'm not sure which piston I need, I gotta check when I get home. I might just do all 6 rod bearings. The one I took out looked kinda worn so I might do all of them. If that piston is the same though I may be interested, I'll let you know

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Thanks, the differences had me worried but apparently they were unfounded. Gonna get the parts ordered up after work today.

    Engine knocking LDS-456

I noticed that the head gaskets they have with that set look a bit different. My engine is an LDS-465-1A, TD block. Is there a difference in head gaskets between these and the -1D or -1C engines? I couldn't fine much online that specifies head gasket specs or variations. Is the change in shape...

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Ok, had me scared for a minute, I'd always seen and been told that any kind of sleeve removal, wet or dry, would always be a nightmare. Awesome, that saves me.a lot of time. I guess I'll get going on ordering parts.

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Ok well that was so easy it actually has me worried. Managed to spin the engine over by using the fan, got the rod bolts out and pushed the piston out. Or well, the piston AND liner. Aren't the liners supposed to be a real tight fit? Thre's oil between the liner and block, and the #1 and #3...

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Pulled the pan today and found a nice surprise. My rods already have the 12pt bolts installed. Now I gotta spin this big boy over and pull the piston, hopefully this goes smoothly

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Check the crank and rods for obvious damage or cracks, give everyhting a shake and make sure there's nothing glaringly loose. If your engine has high miles or hours now would be the time to do rod and/or main bearings since it's already open

    Engine knocking LDS-456

I see the new gaskets have some different holes than my old ones. The ones that came off my truck look like this Whereas the new ones look like this What's with the different shaped lifter slots? Is it just part of the updated design? Or do I need to buy the older style multi piece gaskets

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Ive heard a lot of people say that the head gaskets with the integral firre ring are better, what makes the ones with the separate ring worse than them? Also, does anyone know where to get the integral style gaskets? I can only find the ones with the separate rings, and they're always part of a...

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Yes I had thought so. Got the oil drained out but it looks like that gonna be pretty much it for today, not gonna have much more time sadly.

It was my understanding the LTD and LDS both had liners. I could be wrong since I've never been in an LDT, but we the LDS has replaceable liners

    Engine knocking LDS-456

It wouldn't surprise me if that injectors bad, like I said somebody slapped a 2 hole in the #1 cylinder while the rest are 1 hole so there probably a mixed set of random injectors
  16. Oerthedge21

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Ripped the head off to find the source of a knock. Piston #2s crater melted out.

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Im going to inspect everything more closely once the pan is off, but I'm likely going to do the one bad cylinder and theupgraded rod bolts. That engine was overhauled and dropped in in 89 and doesn't have a whole lot of hours on it so most of the other components should still be in good shape. I...

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Well I think we found the problem. No hole, but the #2 crater has been melted into just that, a crater with no lip or swirl path

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Close to getting the front head off. Took up a bunch of time running around picking up lunch and supplies. Ran into the issue of the side head nuts behind the oil cooler. Was able to string my way through threads compiled by cattlerepairman (thank you) and built my own tool. Didn't have a 7/8...

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Got all the injectors out today, working on oulli g the manifolds off right now. Noticed 2 things with the injectors though. #2 seems like it's the bad cylinder, injector tip has a large mass on it that looks very much like aluminium bits. Also, #1 injector is a 2 holes, all others seem to be 1...
