    Largest Box on 1083/1088

The hab I built is ~23' long at the top, resulting in about 7' of overhang from the rear of the aft tire and 12' from the rear axles actual pivot point. It's definitely a double-edged sword: I LOVE the space but I am very cautious when maneuvering. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but...

    M1088 camper conversion

Hi Johnny, The raw materials for the main structure were in this post: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/m1088-camper-conversion.193622/page-5#post-2329168 The 3x6's are the foundation and .180" wall. The lateral 2x3's in the floor are .120 wall, as are the perimeter tubes (2x3...

    M1088 camper conversion

Confirmed. ACP or e-panel, which is .008 alu skin covering .120 HDPE with another .008 of alu to make the sandwich. No FRP on it. No wrap will be either. I am just going to get over the fact there are times when it's a 10 pound bag on a 5 pound road. The wifey even already said it looks...

    M1088 camper conversion

Good news- can confirm HOT water is now available at the galley sink! The interior build out is still on pause- we have been trying to use the camper while the PNW weather is still appealing. This week we were supposed to go off for a few days, but I took a left turn working on the CTIS system...

    M1088 camper conversion

Here you go, George... Sorry it's not the best pic but it's pretty simple. I have 1/2" for the water heater and the OEM hoses are 5/8" so it required a little rigging. I couldn't find a combination 5/8 x 1/2 T fitting, so I had to convert between sizes to make the hoses connect. The top...

LMTV/Brazos/Titan XD4400… is it right for me?

On the subject of tires, I know it moves away from the military spec but has anyone looked into the 22.5" wheel options in super single sizes (445 65 22.5 )? Anyone with experience running those?

    M1088 camper conversion

It's buttoned back up now but I can next time I have the cab up (passthrough is bolted back together and the grille is back on). It's easy enough to explain though... If you look behind the grille, you'll find the lines up to the heater core in the dash. One of them already had a splice in it...

    Lmtv/fmtv air/crane attachment behind cab

Thanks. Looking around, I believe they are Donaldson PSD100033's. It'd be easy to stack two on a side, and in hindsight, that's what I might have done instead.

    M1088 camper conversion

Ok, so don't do what I did. This doesn't work: After a long drive yesterday, I still had no heat in the hoses to my habitat water heater. This was disapppointing. I knew there was flow through the hose I tapped into, but it was clearly not enough. I ended up talking to Rick about it and...

    LizardSkin / Tire questions

Sorry about that- the math may be right on but the practical application feels way overkill. I just remembered that I only did one coat, but I did everything within the exterior paneling with those 4 gallons, including the sub-floor structure. My interior lengths are 23' long at the top and...

    Lmtv/fmtv air/crane attachment behind cab

There are two types of tanks- expansion (within the pressurized system) and overflow (open to ambient atmospheric pressure). I agree the overflow can go anywhere. I built a mid-engine car and my overflow tank is low and in the nose, and the expansion tank which feeds it is the highest thing in...

    LizardSkin / Tire questions

Off the top of my head, I'd say your math is off. I think I used 4 gal for the interior of my box. I can look it up if you want/need me to but 18 gal sounds way too high. Rick just did his and I think he said he got a 5 gal bucket for his 1079 box. Based on your location, I'd say it'd be...

    Lmtv/fmtv air/crane attachment behind cab

This is why I left mine in place. It looks quite structural. This may be due to applying the lifting forces when being slung but I figure it can't hurt to keep it. Also, there might not be as much space to recover as you think. The expansion tank is about the same size in dia and needs to be...

    LizardSkin / Tire questions

That's what I have and will confirm Rick's assessment. They're fantastic. I see no downside after ~500 miles so far. 2000 M1088A1, 3126 in OE 330h tune, ~7' tall box on back, hwy gears, ECO hubs, somewhere around 25k pounds at this point. For what it's worth, Rick sprayed Lizard Skin after...

Wheres all the folks using antifreeze in their tires ?????

I used some for a while and switched to balance beads. I think it was pure anti-freeze. It seemed to do something but I never did all the tires, so there may have been more to give from it. I also probably didn't use enough. One thing I did notice when went to change out to the beads: the 2...

If I hadn't had to work this weekend, you would have seen three.

    M1088 camper conversion

And BTW, there is no overflow tank on this cooling system. The ~1/4" line which comes off beneath the radiator cap just runs back behind the expansion tank and... ends. Any overflow is just purged out and not collected.

    M1088 camper conversion

Correct. The two at the top/back of the tank feed into it and the bottom pulls out of it.

    M1088 camper conversion

It's not an overflow, it's the expansion tank. A line goes out the bottom and back to the motor.

    M1088 camper conversion

To me, it's a no-brainer. A few connections, no moving parts, and if anything in the added loop fails, the OE hose can get moved back to its original connection point and bypass the heater. If I'm in survival mode, I'll add some water back in and keep rolling. It's basically effortless hot...
