Engine heated hot water should now be functional Redirected the flow to the expansion tank: Made a bulkhead fitting: Interior side of bulkhead fitting: Hook up to coil #1 of 2 on the dual coil water heater: Haven't heat cycled the truck yet, but it is back together and able to be...

    M1088 camper conversion

Logged about 300 more miles this past week, mostly over-the-road, out to Astoria and back with my dad. Stuffed some boats and bikes in the big box and had a great week of paddling, riding, taking pics, hiking, and puttering around Ft Stevens State Park. Took lots of pics of sunsets and a...

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

It's whatever the OE tune is for the 2000 M1088A1. I believe it's 330hp and whatever the torque rating is which goes with that output.

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

I believe Brandon has a 1078 A0. Look up Lostchain on the forum. He has posted feedback and some videos following his conversion. I have a 1088A1 with a big box on it which had highway gears already in it and I love what the ECO hubs have done. I've got about 400 miles on them so far, about...

A Little Help Would Be Appreciated.....

My favorite thing is free stuff but I feel compelled to suggest that for very modest contribution, you can help make sure it stays around: https://steelsoldiers.com/account/upgrades It's probably the easiest ROI I have ever achieved.

    Rattle on steady state driving

Exactly my experience as well. I was worried I had a diff that needed to be shimmed or something along those lines. It was all in the bevel geared hubs.

    Mounting box to m1088a1

You may want to peruse my build thread: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/m1088-camper-conversion.193622/#post-2263915 I have a 2000 M1088A1 and simply relocated it between the frame rails using longer hoses (had to have them custom made, but was easy and not costly). I replaced the fans...

    Expedition engine?

x2!! If you don't need the capacity (and at 2,500 pounds, you certainly don't), you would be best to stay with a 2 axle rig for all the reasons already listed. Having ridden in Rick's C7 rig with ECO hubs, I would highly recommend it for all the listed reasons.

    M1088 camper conversion

Hi Lyle, Absolutely. No worries! I just took a tape measure to it for some general dimensions. The top of the box is just over 22' long and ends ~12' from the center of the rear axles (where twin axles will physically pivot), or another way of looking at it is ~7.5' beyond the end of the...

    Its the little things…

For the amount of hassle and money this forum and its members have saved me, the small contribution to the guys who run it is an absolute no brainer. I struggle to think of better ROI. I also can't stand the ads either, and when they recently re-appeared, it was a visual reminder that my...

    M1088 camper conversion

Last weekend, we had our first "real" trip in the camper. The interior is still unfinished, water is still unplumbed, many other things remain to be done... but we had a mobile bedroom, bathroom, dining room, and galley and we got out to use it. In short, it was delightful. There were a few...

    Eco Hubs and 3.07's - in a 2000 M1088 with a 3126 (~24k pounds)

As an aside, I am pretty happy with how the odometer is reading. It matched extremely well to the mileage that Google Maps told me that I travelled. I think the distance covered side of the equation is pretty accurate.

    Eco Hubs and 3.07's - in a 2000 M1088 with a 3126 (~24k pounds)

Last weekend, we had our first "real" trip in the camper, and one of the things I was most curious about was how the truck would do with the Eco hubs. I've already shared that I never did log extensive mileage with the truck prior to the conversion but I can honestly say it doesn't feel much...

    M1088 camper conversion

With all the progress I've made in the last few days (including large window installs), I thought it was time to get some pics- so it was glamor shots day: And on the inside... With the larger windows installed in the galley and dinette area, I no longer feel like I am building a...

Where to find cab air ride and fan clutch air system troubleshooting procedures, 2000 M1088A1

That is next on the list of things to tackle. Actually, it's not next, but it's on the list... It was working fine until one day it wasn't. I unplugged it to get it home (relays kept cycling like a metronome) and have been working on other things since then. As part of a different project...

RESOLVED!!! - Solenoid block no longer needed

RESOLVED!!! In a feat of awesomeness, Rick (GeneralDisorder) happened to have one attached to a spare cab at his shop. He was kind enough to let it go my way, and in an amazingly short time since I took the liberty of screwing it up, my rig is back to fully functional. A little bit of...

RESOLVED!!! - Solenoid block no longer needed

Chasing a different issue, I created a new one for me. I over-tightened an air line on the power divider and fan clutch distribution block and spun it off. Anyone have a source for a replacement? A broken one looks like this:

Where to find cab air ride and fan clutch air system troubleshooting procedures, 2000 M1088A1

Problem solved. Was a bit self-inflicted. I worked on the regulator while chasing leaks and needed to reset it. I used regulated compressor air to get it to open ~90 psi and I'm back in business.
