What have you done to your JEEP today

Well, for the first time in 14 months, I drove my M38A1. That is all.

    M38A1 Therapy Build with Pictures

December 2016 Update! After a long 14 months, my M38A1 is again running under its own power. I still have a tremendous amount of punch list and shakedown items to complete, but she's running and motivating. Of course, I wish my Dad were here to see her and take a ride. I am sure that he...

Yes, the engine ran well, smoked a little, but generally ran well. Distributor was supposed to be NOS. Oil pump has not been tampered with in any way. Let me know what you need and I will attend to it ASAP. Thanks for the compliment, that means a lot to me!

What have you done to your JEEP today

I am way out of my depth when it comes to tackling the dual calibration of timing and carburetor. I think I could do the carburetor but I just don't understand enough about the timing process to do it myself. I replaced a 12 volt system (hack job) which included replacing the distributor...

Starter Engages With Switch in the Off Position

Thanks, I wondered why everyone seems to have those. That's a good idea, I'm going to install one. Thanks!

Off to the Mechanic to Have the Timing Set and Carburetor Tuned All but three punch list items are completed, one of those being to touch up the paint / paint screws, nuts, bolts, etc. which will have to happen when it warms up. We are taking it to the mechanic for the timing to be set -...

Starter Engages With Switch in the Off Position

My starter will engage and turn with the ignition switch in the "Off" position. I know this isn't correct, but I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting. This is the ignition switch I am using: It looks like it is hooked up correctly, the numbers match up, with 85 remaining unattached for...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Thanks, and yes, much of the items specifically marketed for the M38A1 have to be modified. Of course, since they produced the M38A1 for so long, I guess there are a lot of changes in them, so it's probably to be expected.

Ready to Test Start Wiring is 90% complete, just need to secure some spots on the harness. Looks like I have good continuity everywhere. I still waiting on fittings for the oil pressure sender, but otherwise I am buttoned up. Next phase - punch list items and then trial start up. I never...

Let There Be Lights Electrical system first test - lights. Still waiting on a gauge so don't want to turn the motor over yet.

What have you done to your JEEP today

Well, I had a 50 / 50 chance of getting it right! That makes sense, when you think about it, all the other stars are point up on military vehicles. D'OH!

What have you done to your JEEP today

Some Cosmetic Progress Still waiting on the correct douglas connectors for the electrical harness, so I put the hood and windshield back on Murphy along with installing the back seat. UPS just delivered the correct oil pressure sensor and gauge, so that's probably next. Shooting for a trial...

What have you done to your JEEP today

I couldn't find that in the regs, I'm sure I overlooked it, though, 'cause the Army would not miss that. I looked at pictures of vehicles in service and at some award winning M38A1s. They weren't consistently in one direction, but most of them were point forward.

What have you done to your JEEP today

Two Steps Forward and One Step Backward The decal masking pulled off some of the hood paint (apparently I didn't prep it correctly) but the star is awesome. The other is easily fixed. I placed the star so far forward per Army regulations which stated, paraphrasing, that the star should be...
