Well once I get the time to try the slide hammer I'll report back.
In looking at my rotor, I'm not seeing how the exciter coils or mail coils would slide off the main rotor shaft. I also don't see any pictures in the manual referencing that. Is that something the bigger gensets let you do but...
The whole goal is to replace the engine so I don't really care about all the other stuff. That being said, I re-read your comment about just removing the flywheel and I'm not seeing how that is possible on the 802. According to pictures and the manuals I've looked up on the 802, you can't get...
Here is a picture of the situation. The problem is the red plate won't come out of the tan fly wheel. All 5 bolts holding the red plate into the fly wheel have been removed.
guyfang,
I'm doing all this to replace a bad engine with a rebuilt one. I didn't anticipate all this trouble.
I currently have a strap around the main rotor section( not the exciter rotor ) and have lifted up the whole thing( rotor, motor, skid ) to try and let gravity do the work. It hasn't...
Guyfang, in your picture I can't get part 25 to separate from part 42. I have removed bolts 16.
I haven't tried heat yet because I don't see a good way to get heat to the area of the fly wheel that I need. Additionally there is soo much fly wheel mass my thought is that 1, it'll take for ever...
I'm working on replacing the engine on my 802 which requires a full tear down of the generator. I've gotten everything taken off but am stuck at the stage of removing the rotor from the fly wheel. I've been working on getting it removed for several days now and have used copious amounts of PB...
ryanlf84,
yeah I got the 5 ton figured out and helped some other SS members navigate the process. This is what I've found and had to go through. As with all things MVD... your experience may vary.
1. Congrats on the truck. Hopefully its not too much truck for you and you enjoy it. The 5 ton...
Thanks for the explanation. That makes a lot of sense. As you mention, the RPi solution gives you a lot of future flexibility and customization paths.
So you mentioned here again you use DTMF codes to manually key and unkey the radio. That makes sense from a side channel perspective. From an...
Sounds like you've got a custom solution brewing for your wide band RX solution. I agree that the single antenna/single RX limitation on the commercial offerings is sometimes annoying and limiting. We just got a multiplexer at work so that we can tie multiple RX SDRs into a single antenna...
What SDR gear to you plan on using? I've been getting more into SDRs over the past year and the possibilities seem endless. Thus far I've mainly focused on using them professionally and haven't yet thought about the ham radio uses. Though, as I briefly think about it, they obviously have some...
Evapo Rust to the rescue
Soaked the cylinders in Evapo rust for a total of ~56 hours. They are now rust free and the crank spins easily. No bad/scary noises from anything, so thats nice.
There is clear pitting from the rust deposits so the engine will still get a tear down.
Well given the prices that current 802's are going for, especially ones that are likely runners, I could buy a brand new engine and still be ahead. So... I'm willing to give it the wrench and TLC time and see what I can get out of them. At the very least, its a fun new project for me. You can't...
The tail is as old as time here on SS. A little over a year ago I got excited when the first big batch of 802's went to auction from MD. I won 2 of them, and while mine where still in the shipping phase I started reading others stories of 802's from MD. To say the least I was worried. Again...
generator qualitative audio comparision video
A friend and I have long debated the various qualities of both civilian and military generators. One of the key factors has always been noise levels. Over this past weekend we shot a video to compare the qualitative noise differences between several...
This site and this group of people are amazing. Even though I had tried to research this and didn't find anything, the collective group still knows things each individual doesn't.
The base of the A frame just uses the pins from the front shackles. The top of the frame has a fixed piece of...
Well, lately it seems I've had the need to move many heavy/large/awkward objects. The most annoying of which are 2 tree stumps sitting in my front yard.
Every once and a while I see pictures of military trucks with an A frame boom attached to the bumper to make an adhoc crane or lifting point...
Soni, where did you source those black tie down points on the side of the dump module? They look similar to things I've seen on MTVR beds. I think they'd work really well on several trailer projects I have in the works.
Excellent fab work. I find it very inspirational for my own projects and...
Well I'm just like the rest of the group. Pictures looked great, all the information available seemed favorable. I even went back and re-looked at the pictures of my winning lot and they still look good. I'll just have to see what I get when it shows up.
The news on their actual condition...
