m1009 daily driver, what to look for?

A fender to fit that truck should cost you about $25 and take less than an hour to install. The rust in the floorboards I'd check very carefully, from on top and underneath. Make sure the floorpans are structurally sound. Pull back the kickpanel just below the parking brake and make sure the...

m1009 daily driver, what to look for?

Gents, Stranger75 is my brother. He contacted me a few weeks ago, looking for a dependable daily-driver SUV that he could get inexpensively and do some maintenance himself. We've been going over Craigslist ads for awhile, and I pointed out that an M1009 may fit into the category of what he's...

    6.2 to bbc sm 465?

You may want to search in the CUCV forum, you'll find some fairly detailed posts regarding putting an SM465 behind a 6.2L Biggest hurdle, if you have all your other parts sourced, will be your flywheel. There are extensive parts lists and detailed swap information in the other forum so give it...

S-250 Shelter / Ham Shack Conversion

Excellent looking shelter. I like the plans a lot. WRT getting the grounding rods back out, you may consider using a Hi-lift or ratcheting farm jack. They're very handy for getting stakes and fence posts out of the ground, so if you had some kind of attachment loop or hook on the top of the...

    Spare tire on front

I've seen a bunch of pictures of the Chevy K5 Blazer Chalet package with a front mount spare tire. Just hit up google images for 'Chevy Blazer Chalet' and over half the pics show it. I say give it a run and see how it does, if it restricts airflow too much, go up on the roof.

    Rear Winch Linkage

Thanks BFR, I have about 17 different TM's open on my desktop, trying to wade through them all and find the right one. Thanks for the quick help.

    Rear Winch Linkage

Gents, Can anyone tell me how the rear winches on pipeline and bolster trucks are hooked up to the PTO? I've been looking at how high they sit above the frame and I just don't see room for a direct driveshaft from a PTO. Are they powered by a roller chain, or is there something I'm not seeing...

    5 ton tractor differences

I really like the look of how Miltrucks put the winch and headache rack on his M48 tractor. I searched, and couldn't find a build thread. Does anyone know where it would be located, either here or on the old board? I'd love to see how he rigged that winch into place and hooked it up via PTO.

    5 ton tractor differences

Also the M123 has a MAX road speed of 45mph, some have put it as low as 35mph. Not exactly a streetable tractor by any means. There is another truck out there that has a rear winch, but they seem to be somewhat rare - M815 Bolster Truck. It's not a tractor, but I don't know how hard it would...

    Stuck in my yard....TWICE!!

Those are really cool pictures! The videos are nice too. You really get a feel for how soft the ground is. Looks like a dolly could come in handy every so often. I saw a slideshow once of a heavy wrecker like that getting stuck, and buried BAD. I'll see if I can find it, talk about a heck of a day.

    ss rank

Hmm I just noticed I got 'promoted'. So apparently the lower ranks go as follows: Private Corporal Sergeant Sergeant Major (100 posts) So what happens if, just like in my regular career, I despise officers and want to remain a crusty NCO? I've already topped out the NCO ranks, I...

    Military "Cattle-Cars"

I rode them at Ft. Sill in 1999... they were mainly used to transport recruits during reception in-processing, and then 'across the tracks' to the training areas. We were usually piled into deuces for training, one platoon got one deuce. So, two drill sergeants and a private up front, and...

    Stuck in my yard....TWICE!!

K10A that was a REALLY cool trick. Sort of an attached, walking sand ladder!

    Stuck in my yard....TWICE!!

Recovery4x4, I'm pretty sure that technique is in the Wheeled Vehicle Driver field manual under field-expedient recovery techniques. Very cool to see it in use!

    Tractor ID help?

OK fellas I went and confirmed, it's definitely an M52A1 with a Mack engine. I've taken some pics and wanted to see what you guys thought in terms of monetary value. Can you help me determine how much this truck should be worth? It seems to have 104k miles on it. Thanks!

    Tractor ID help?

Gents, Looking at a truck, and I'm trying to definitely ID it. I've only looked over it quickly once, and didn't know enough information to positively ID it. It's a 5 ton tractor, but I need to determine if it's an M818 or an M52A1. What are some visual cues to help determine which model it...

    Blackstone M813's Recovery+2 M35's Pic

Guys there's much easier bypasses rather than following the 460business signs through blackstone. If you come out the main post gate, continue STRAIGHT instead of turning left towards Blackstone. When you get to the end of that road, turn RIGHT and it will take you by a small lumber yard and...

International Title Service --- A+ SERVICE!

Thank you! I wasn't even worried about titles from an MV standpoint (the ones I'm looking at have titles already) but I have 2 late 40's CJ3A's, one I know DOESN'T have a title, and one I'm not sure yet if it does or not. And y'all from VA can certainly testify what a PITA it is to deal with...
