M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

I changed the post title to something more accurate. I have also been hard at work slowly approaching the manual lockup switch. Which meant I needed a switch. Which meant I needed a console. Which meant I needed to work near the floor so might as well sort out some forever details.... seats are...

    LMC Truck polyvinyl floor covering

thanks for the replies! Since i live away from the coast and the truck is leak free I am interested in getting something better than the tattered oem mat back in there. I figure may as well try and "do it right" while I am at it. Was thinking sound control mat (adhesive rubber/aluminum) but...

    LMC Truck polyvinyl floor covering

Anyone ever use one? I imagine the high hump would be the one to order. Tried searching here but maybe wrong search terms as I came up empty handed.

    Starter grinds flywheel when started???

new to this thread but I thought I should chime in.... starter grinding can mean a few things. Like first post said, inspect carefully, it would be a little more relieving to see the wear evenly across the whole flywheel but often times when a bad spot happens in the motor it will stop at the...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

Well thanks! I am sure I have over 30 hours in with an easy 20 to go but seeing it lit up makes it all worth while at this point. I have the last few parts ordered (some atx computer harness extensions to hack up to make the thing easy to dissasemble without undoing dozens of connections). I am...

Had different engine sound after oil change and replacing radiator, now resolved.

Wouldn't a blocked off oil cooler just allow the bypass valve to open and still supply unfiltered pressure?

Had different engine sound after oil change and replacing radiator, now resolved.

This is pointing towards needing the mechanical gauge to verify the no oil pressure condition before you figure out why. I would imagine the logical flow chart would be something like Is there oil in it? > Is the oil pump drive spinning it? (maybe your vacuum pump has come loose and hopped...

Had different engine sound after oil change and replacing radiator, now resolved.

also check oil sensor housing to ground for continuity.

Had different engine sound after oil change and replacing radiator, now resolved.

shot that reply off as fast as I could, now that said... how long has it ran like this? After an oil change it is normal to take a few seconds longer for oil pressure to be restored after the first start but running without pressure is a very fast way to needing a new motor. Nothing that you...

Had different engine sound after oil change and replacing radiator, now resolved.

Do not run it. Get mechanical gauge and hook it up. Disconnect fuel shutoff solonoid and crank. After some cranking I wold expect some oil pressure. If not something is wrong and you need to fix it. Do not run until oil pressure is verified mechanically.

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

So I made some good progress on the console. Had a heck of a time getting the slots "just right" by hand (drill press, router, dremel, file etc... but they definately got to where I am happy with them. I wish it could have been 1/2" wider but I did not want to move the PA over nor have it hang...

    Coolant and Oil Temp Sensor

while I agree with everyone that other temps and pressures are more important, I had a thought.... if you did not want to drop the pan I believe there are oil pan drain plugs with a 1/8npt hole in them for temp sensors. You would just have to know what the thread was. After coolant temp, oil...

    Coolant and Oil Temp Sensor

I think you are misreading what he said.... basically across from the GP sensor on the other head there is a coolant block off plate. Nothing to thread into. The part# is for a plate with threads. This goes into the coolant. You would put a coolant temp sensor in it. As for the oil temp...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

Yes, he gave me the go-ahead to install the switch. How much that will stop/slow down the climbing temp will be interesting. I will post results when I find out. Will be in about a month or two.

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

Thankfully my motor runs cool as a cucumber! So cool I wonder if someone may have installed a lower temp stat or removed it entirely but I have not gone digging as it runs great. Coolant stays where it is supposed to and it does get warm enough. Never gets past 190 on grades and cruises at 165...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

That is a great idea! While the windows are a nice source of light I am sure it wouldnt cut it by too much (I usually don't hang out in there in the day anyhow). The camo patterns probably wouldn't match up perfect but I am sure I could adjust layout (which I was planning) for a dark color to...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

Nice, never can have too many gauges! I am pretty sure that the vacuum pump delete from one of my 6.5t motors for my work truck will fit in place of my current setup as I no longer have the need for vacuum. (Building a replacement now which will hopefully run for a few years, bought a truck and...

M1010 fire rig to camper conversion

Trying to remain productive in my spare time... I laid out how I think the console will fit into the rig. The diagnostic plug will get tucked up under the dash, the main ground disconnect will be built in and it should fit nice and snug fully underneath the dash next to the PA box. figure the...

    Vent Window Question

great info! Anyone know if the seals for the latches are available separately? Thankfully my vents are in good shape but she sure is a whistler when it is cold out.

    6.5l oem rings

FWIW, I stuck one in a lightly oiled cylinder and it magically fit better.... pulled it out and discovered the black spackled coating is some sort of oil based protective film. Even the guy I contacted at Federal Mogul did not recognize what it was... all the moly rings I have seen and have...
