The same glow plug constantly roasting mystery..

Brittle and melted off. What’s left of them look like they were made of glass and were broke off.

The same glow plug constantly roasting mystery..

M998A1 with 6.2, i’ve now replaced 4 glow plugs on the same cylinder. A popular theory was that the injector was leaking and dripping fuel onto the glow plug. The normal heating cycle of the glow plug was igniting the glow plug and roasting it. I replaced the injectors with cheapo import...

    Off the shelf muffler options..

Hard to tell if that’s sarcasm or not.. but seems like if you’re putting more air in you’d want to make accommodations for more air *out* as well. It certainly would work but might negate the advantages of the supercharger if it pushed more air than a military 6.5 turbo.

    Off the shelf muffler options..

It'll be here Wednesday.. so I'll post photos by the end of the week. No question there are things that when they break, you gotta buy the right part. That's with everything. Other things.. like fuel injectors, for instance, I have my 6.2 running like a swiss watch on off the shelf injectors...

    Off the shelf muffler options..

I started this thread asking if anyone had used an aftermarket muffler on a humvee because my current exhaust is a straight pipe with a glass pack as an exhaust tip. Folks here act like aftermarket automotive parts don’t exist, or that if it doesn’t specifically say “humvee” that it can’t...

    Off the shelf muffler options..

It is a rudimentary diesel engine. The factory muffler is gone and replaced with straight pipe. Probably not DOD regulation straight pipe. It has a glass pack on it. Also not likely a DOD regulation glasspack. Guess what? It runs great. Just loud. What sort of magic do you suppose happens inside...

    Off the shelf muffler options..

For starters, "what's best" for anyone is up to the individual to decide. Second, I just painted this mofo with Caterpillar yellow tractor paint in my driveway. The likelihood I give a wet, corn riddled fart about how the next owner of this truck feels about me when I'm dead and gone is zero...

    Off the shelf muffler options..

I get that there aren’t a lot of mufflers that look like *that* but all I really need is a muffler that’ll fit in this spot where the original muffler would have been.

    Off the shelf muffler options..

My M998A1 has a straight pipe from the headers to a glass pack for an exhaust tip. It’s super loud and I thought it was just part of the Humvee experience till recently I heard how it’s *supposed* to sound with the stock muffler. Rather than fork over big money for a new replacement part number...

    M998A1 6.2 NA injector options

Well, after having “an actual diesel tech (supposedly) familiar with these engines” tell me it was fine then have a glow plug shoot out of the side of the motor two days later I had an opportunity to pull the corresponding injector out to look around and the injector looked like something...

    M998A1 6.2 NA injector options

That was *allegedly* done a few years ago shortly after the previous owner acquired it. I (perhaps mistakenly) attribute a LACK of fuel reaching the cylinders as indicative of faulty or failing injection pump rather than an excess of fuel, which is why I’m working from the cheap (and...

    M998A1 6.2 NA injector options

Well, I’ll tell ya why.. because if i’m going out on the road i’d rather go with known good rather than who knows what. The vehicle is 30 years old and unknown mileage and has undoubtedly sat for many years. In my head, any vehicle that has sat for any length of time with a dubious service...

    M998A1 6.2 NA injector options

The current installed injectors appear to be shorts (as I compare them to examples of both online) My concern is thread type (I'd read somewhere recently that the civilian engine had different threads to dissuade sticky fingered motor pool personal from liberating injectors for their personal...

    M998A1 6.2 NA injector options

I guess it's that part number that I'm not having great success in finding. I'm not confident (based on the state of this vehicle) that whatever injectors are in there presently are the correct ones.

    M998A1 6.2 NA injector options

I have a 94 M998A1 with a 6.2 engine and can’t seem to find a definitive answer regarding injectors. Will injectors from a civi GM 6.2 of the same era work? Coarse threat, fine thread, long or short,… putple bsnd, green band, no band.. lots of options in a google search and all of them say they...

    Dongfeng doors on Humvee

I realize this is an over a year old thread, but I had to ask.. Where are you finding these Chinese parts? I googled doors for the Dongfeng "Maverick" and they're $1800+ a piece.

M998 / Niehoff 200 amp Alternator rebuild kits?

So follow up on this in case anyone else ends up with this question. I spoke with one of Niehoff's authorized dealers who told me that Niehoff *will* sell you the parts to rebuild the alternator, but the coil, stator, all that is in one unit.. and it costs $2k. It's actually cheaper to bag a...

M998 / Niehoff 200 amp Alternator rebuild kits?

Well that's what I'd read prior to buying this.. that it was far more common for the regulator to STB. Unfortunately when I meter between socket A on the alternator to regulator harness plug and the B+ I show no resistance (should have 1.8 to 2.2 ohms) and jumpering socket A to the B- on the...
