Vintage pics of M809s at Aberdeen Proving Ground

Fording in an M813. With the solid non clutch fan on these things, I would think the engine fan would kiss the radiator as soon as a full suck of water was coming in from the front end. When we used to cross deep water with our jeeps we would actually get out and remove our rubber alternator...

    Hutchinson Run Flat Lubricant

With the 16.00s I have I am guessing there was at least one tube of it in each tire. This was with the solid rubber run flat in an XZL. I did take a couple teaspoon scoop out and put some antifreeze in with it in a empty water bottle and it doesn't seem to care. But instead of being a nice...

modern dual circuit air over hydraulic brakes

Info on Hydro-max units. Info on electric motors relay/peddle control to be interesting(Figure 6) and the info on the power steering hydraulic pressure and GPM to be important to reference. There was no spec sheet to give a max PSI input. The general info in the screen shot below was on page 15...

    Disc Brake Conversion

In looking more into the mounting of the disc brake 4 piston caliper. This is a snip from a video on youtube showing a brake change on an F650 with the 4 piston caliper. The plate will need to look similar. That 4 piston caliper is MONSTROUSLY large. The plate is threaded for each of the six...

modern dual circuit air over hydraulic brakes

That is a great question! Safety. The primary reason is safety backup. With the Stock system any failure in any of the following ends in catastrophic failure: MC seal failure, Air pack issues, hard-line pipe corrosion, soft-line flexible hose deterioration or physical failure, and wheel cylinder...

modern dual circuit air over hydraulic brakes

Getting this great thread back on topic... Check :) patracy Can you get the part numbers for these parts MC and Hydro boost unit posted up? If I missed it back in the thread I apologize. Reviewing the brakes on my M813, I have a preference for the air over hydraulic but I do feel a dual circuit...

    Disc Brake Conversion

Watching with great interest. When first considering discs I was thinking I wouldn't want to flip the rear hubs, but seeing how having them flipped hides the rotors inside the wheel far from potential "road" damage, I am sold on flipping them. An additional benefit of flipping the hub is with...

Never underestimate the power of physics on your 20k winch

Are the cases broken from the front vertical guide rollers being slamed into the ground? I have seen some photos and one in person where the vertical side rollers were busted clean off. Makes me want to mount my winch (still need some $$ for parts) so it feeds out above the bumper. Just curious.

Delco 24si alternator install on nhc250

In looking at these 33SI series style alternators I do not see a balance wire for the 24V system pairs of batteries (For this example lets just say we have two batteries). This would normally give the "lower"-"A" battery a boost of amps to ensure the two batteries "A" and "B" are equal in...

    Superthermal's M813 Build, THE BOT

One interesting thing of note was the difference in overall height of the Goodyear AT-2A and the Michelin XZL 16.00 r20 tires. The Michelin was new which gives it a bit of a boost but it was significantly larger than the Goodyear even with the missing tread off the lugs of the Goodyear.

Rear view mirror backup camera install

I am way behind you as far as getting some electronics in my ride. Just finished with mounting 6 of 8 16s with runflats. Next is winch or Detroits. Nice to see some niceties put into an 809 series. I was thinking heated seats would be a nice or like you did here a sweet camera set up. You have...

HEMTT Rim, Breaking loose the bead. No beadlock. Ideas to make this a smoother process.

I had the tire laid down flat on blocks. I centered the run flat using my high lift jacking horizontally. Once centered I used a tire seating lube on the tire and run flat and the rim. I pressed the rim into the tire keyed perfectly with the runflat air channel and then jumped on it to get it...

HEMTT Rim, Breaking loose the bead. No beadlock. Ideas to make this a smoother process.

#6 Tire being assembled now. I do have 2 more tires to mount but I still need some cash to buy and ship those so I can have 8 total tires.

Sorry had to read that again, sidewall not bead. Bead is .5inch

HEMTT Rim, Breaking loose the bead. No beadlock. Ideas to make this a smoother process.

They are Goodyear 16s AT-2A tires. Looks like the bead is 1.5ish inches. Here is a pic of my last cut side, uou can see I modified my "V" cut to ensure I was far fron the bead seal and my die grinder cut goes diagonally from there to ensure my depth was controlled. Like you, once I had the main...

    Superthermal's M813 Build, THE BOT

Spent the last week's evenings fighting the removal of the last three tires. You can look at this thread below to see how that turned out. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/hemtt-rim-breaking-loose-the-bead-no-beadlock-ideas-to-make-this-a-smoother-process.211681/post-2477946

HEMTT Rim, Breaking loose the bead. No beadlock. Ideas to make this a smoother process.

Well, all as I can say in the end is IF your not looking to save the tires I found that just using a Sawzall with a carbide Diablo blade to cut along the mid sidewall doing a vdip down to just short of the rim and then plunge your diegrinder into the bead metal bands was faster then any other...

HEMTT Rim, Breaking loose the bead. No beadlock. Ideas to make this a smoother process.

@simp5782 I am now working on one of the front tires. It had a clogged valve stem which would not take or release any air. I had to cut the valve stem body to release the air so I could safely disassemble the rim clamping bolts. The hardened rubber not allowing the bead breaker to edge up...

HEMTT Rim, Breaking loose the bead. No beadlock. Ideas to make this a smoother process.

After fighting the 4th tire for 2 hours or more and not even being able to break just one bead loose with my HighLift, I borrowed from a friend a bead breaker like what you have pictured here. Still took 9 different "Jacks" to break the bottom deep rim section loose and 6 for the top.

    runflats, good or bad?

In short NO, I dont have any special equipment. My steps I used are listed here: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/superthermals-m813-build-story-to-start.208944/post-2475278
