Cracked a TH400 case and support brackets with a NP205

Gonna revive an old thread in hopes of guidance. I'm helping my friend who is the Fire Chief for the district next to mine. He has a 1008 the Forest Service built into a brush truck in the early '90s. This is presently used as a Type-7 patrol truck during the fire season, and a plow truck in...

    CUCV Oil/Fuel Leak

I see an oil leak. My standard fare is to get a few cans of brake parts cleaner or carb cleaner to compliment a collection of rags to clean up the mess as well as possible. My wager is the leak is probably pressure related as it is getting spread like crazy as you drive down the road. Once...

    Dually tire question

Most tire shops I've worked with are willing to do some "trying on of the shoe selection" as long as it's what's in stock. YMMV but see what your local shops are willing to do for you. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

    Dually tire question

As wide as you want as long as the inner sidewalls NEVER touch. Can't cite sizes, too many combinations to work with. I've seen guys able to run 35x14 rubber for duals in years past...lots of trial and error. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

    Rear Exterior Spare Tire Carrier

I second the Wilco Offroad Hitchgate carrier. I've been sporting one on my 2500 Suburban for over 3 years near-constant duty (removed occasionally, but always goes back on). They have multiple models to choose from, but none are cheap...they've doubled in price since I got the 1st run of my...

Tips for removing hood "pop spring"? (M1009)

The brace can be used as an additional tool in the repair of a hood along with other body repair techniques in order to save the original hood as some folks prefer to repair to max possible rather than replace with inferior parts. I would debate the safety of the braces until I exhausted myself...

My MEP-803a and it's first true test

@nextalcupfan what's your background that gives you the knowledge base for this stuff? I just watched all of your videos and am curious if you've already made some sort of build thread for everything you've done? I like the sub-panel you've mounted to the unit. Block heater

Prolonged tests like that should have plenty of heat dicipating ability so the element doesn't overheat. Before I install mine I give a momentary plug with the element dry in my hand...really hot in seconds. Never had an issue with any block heater plugged in for days on end. My fire department...

    Block heater

I've seen similar things over the years. Single-use failures are an anomaly, exercise their warranty until ya get a good one. Test it in a bucket of water or metal pipe full of water before having to keep getting a bath in Glycol. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

Tips for removing hood "pop spring"? (M1009)

If it was me I'd go back to the OE hood and add the hood brace kit that repairs the original problem you started with then lube the bageezus out of the OE hinge. This is a well known Squarebody problem, tho more prominent in the 73-80 hinge design...the 81-87/91 hinges have better manners and...

    Electrical distribution blocks

Along the way I've added a CUCV component here & there to my 78 K25 as I find they give added versatility to my multi-role monstrosity. (Rear bumper, bed tie-down eyelets, etc...NP208 PTO is likely a pipe dream) My current consideration is adding the multi-point electrical distribution blocks...

    Headlight Woes

CUCVRUS nailed it, nicely done! I completely forgot about them doing that. The repair mentioned would be to take the melted end, trim then strip, add inline fuse holder w/30A fuse, then run to constant power source. This is a solid reccomendation that will get you back on the road "most...

    Headlight Woes

I have a certain disdain when it comes to the 73-87/91 headlight switch. Always wondered what kind of crack the engineers were on when they designed them. I've had more than a couple give overly awkward behaviors that stumped some of the better squarebody guys I've known. My second step after...
